Aprilia Moto 6.5 1996 P for restoration - ideal winter project!

1996 Aprilia Moto 6. 5 project in silver. In need of restoration and recommissioning. If you're reading this you are probably aware of Phillipe Starck's creation and the stir it caused. The Moto 6. 5 was based on Pegasomechanicals with the 5 valve 650 motor. and has controversial styling from the world famous designer. In recent times these bikes have become extremely collectible. They frequently crop up on ebay at prices in the 4000 - 5500 range. This one is a potential way to get a foot in the door of Moto 6. 5 ownership without breaking the bank. It is in need of some work. but the major elements are all there. I bought it as a project but as in so many cases I've had it nearly a year and not touched it. The tank. seat. exhaust etc are all clean and sound though the tank has a non-original paint job. The forks. clocks etc are from a Pegaso so would need replacing for originality. though given the close family ties I would think the current units are perfectly usable. I've never tried to start it; I would want to check it over thoroughly before doing so and I simply haven't had the time to do it. I would suggest that anyone who takes this on would similarly wish to change the oil. fit a new battery. check valve clearances and so on. Because of this I cannot give any guarantee as to the condition of the mechanical parts.  I simply haven't anything to go on as I haven't tried it. Cosmetically the seat is good. the engine paint etc is pretty good. it's all grubby but intact and I think will clean up well. It will need paint to look original. I believe that for someone with more time (and probably skill) than me it would be a great opportunity to get a cheap runabout Moto 6. 5 or with some paint to make some serious money by restoring it to original condition.  The cosmetic engine parts unique to this model are all there and appear to be in good order. so apart from the front end it should be a fairly straightforward recommissioning job. The bike is located between Oxford and Cheltenham in GL54. Please ask if you have any questions.  I have set a very modest reserve which I will keep to myself -if you want to know what it is place a bid!Please keep in mind that this bike has been off the road since 2006 based on the latest MoT certificate.  It obviously has no current MoT and is on SORN. The mileage on the speedo is obviously not accurate as it is not the original. I have an MoT certificate from 2006 which says the mileage is 403.  Read into that what you will - that may be the figure from the replacement speedo. which currently reads 2107 or may be the figure on the original speedo. I simply do not know. You will have to take it away with a van or trailer and it will need work to be a roadworthy runner.  Having said that I believe it is a very good starting point to get yourself a very desirable modern classic at a very low price.
