Description

Hi All. Where do I start ! Well. I have owned this bike since the summer of 2010. Ever since they were first released. I always wanted one. but especially I liked the idea of a black one When I bought this one it was blue and had a few scratches & age related marks so I thought it would be the perfect starting point for a project. Initially I rode it as it was for about 8 months. then in May 2011 when on a trip up the M40 it started to Kangaroo. I knew straight away it was the infamous Italian electrics playing up. so had the bike recovered home and stripped the fairing to get to the engine. Whilst replacing the coils. spark plugs. HT leads and anything else electrical. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to have all the body work painted in the colour I had always wanted. so I duly stripped every panel from the bike. and sent them to a painter I know to do the deed. At the same time I started accumulating new parts to build the bike I always wanted. Now this is where my saga began. first of all the guy working on my panels was off sick for 6 months and I could not get them back. eventually I retrieved them and sent to my brother who worked as a paint sprayer 120 miles away. Then I bought an old jetski :-) if you have ever ridden or owned a jetski you will understand they are all consuming. for the next 2 years my time was spent either riding or repairing the jetski and the Aprilia was left upstairs in the warehouse at work and not touched. My brother had returned all the panels to me painted really well in 2 pack black then carefully wrapped in bubblewrap. and this is how they mostly still are. Summer 2013 I sold the jetski and decided to crack on with the bike. I stripped the clocks. replaced the screen and painted the surround black as I thought it looked much better than the original silver. Then re assembled the tank. the seat unit and grab handles. At this point I discovered a fuel pipe was damaged and both throttle cables corroded. so these were duly replaced. also Did a Oil & Filter change. then started the bike first time. but it ran very erratic. most likely as it has new plugs. leads. coils. throttle cables etc. so needs setting up ? I ordered a cable to connect the ecu to my laptop and intended to download the tune ecu software (see the aprilia forum) THEN everything changed !! One Monday morning I went to work and found my bike laying on it's side against some bags & boxes. and a childrens metal swing frame laying ON IT ! Nobody seemed to know anything about it. yet the swing was 20 feet away on the Friday when I left :-( I still don't know the truth. and where it fell against the bike it chipped the paint on the tank and put some grazes down the paint . I have done NOTHING to the bike since that day. I have totally lost the heart to work on it and would rather just let it go as a unfinished project ! So what are you getting - EVERYTHING is there. all the fairing panels are safely stored on a shelf wrapped in bubblewrap there is a BRAND new maxxis rear tyre fitted and a Brand new Maxxis front tyre to be fitted. Brand new double bubble screen to be fitted Brand new fender defender ULTRA RARE good condition pair of Panniers with keys. I bought these refurbished & painted Black to go with the bike (these sell for ??100's on their own) New set of Aprilia Futura Decals Spare Exhaust end can Various new bolts & fixings for re assembly of the fairing Various other spare parts to be included. so to summarize - you will need to do a little bit of paint touch up on the tank and seat unit / grab handle. The bike starts but will not tick over properly. it doesn't knock bang or rattle. just won't idle ? a competent mechanic should be able to sort this easily. the rear brake & clutch will need attention. I think new fluid & bleeding may be the answer as they have not been used in 3 1/2 years. the head light has crazing and a scratch. but I will provide some special plastic polish as used on faded car headlights to restore it. There seems to be a minor oil leak underneath since doing the oil change. not sure if I just didn't tighten the cover enough or it's a dodgy gasket ? it was 100% fine before. the battery is missing as it was stolen to put in another bike. and finally a "expert race mechanic" friend has played with the front forks to lower it slightly which is supposed to aid the handling. obviously I have not ridden it yet. but since he undid everything. the handlebar now hits the tank ! TOP TIP don't let your friends play with it. take it to a real expert :-) you WILL need a van or trailer to take this away. It CANNOT BE RIDDEN. it's an easy project for someone & could be a ??2000-3000 bike when completed. or would also be a good source of spares although I would hate to see it broken for parts. it's ONLY for sale as I just cannot motivate myself to get up there and finish it. I'm really busy with work and would rather just buy a new bike in the summer next year. I don't need the money but I do need the space back at work so no silly offers thanks :-) I have the V5 in my name. the bike is correctly registered as black. and is currently sorned. obviously with no MOT The last photo is just to show what it could look like when finished! Any questions please feel free to ask. I will provide my number for genuinely interested persons. if you want to see other photos I can email them directly. I am also will to discuss a sensible offer .
