1995 BMW R80 RT

Monoshock. Cray Engineering Twin Plug upgrade and comprehensive history

This bike was originally owned by my father. he was the original keeper and bought it new from BMW in 1995.   He used it for work and Touring and always had it looked after by either BMW or well known BMW specialised Bob Porecha based in Sydnam South East London.

After doing around 50k on the bike it was sold to a good freind of his who then took the reins and took it to other well known air cooled BMW expert Jim Cray. where he upraded the engine by twin plugging the headfs. fitted an upgraded Hagon shock and a few other upgrades and kept the history going.   It stopped being used in 2009 and sat in his garage due to old age and age related injuries.

Recent to it being garaged it had a new clock fitted. hence why the mileage shows 648 miles.   Due to this bikes exstensive history it is easy to work out the mileage. which is just under ?85k.

I got a call early last year (the original owners son) and took it off of his hands. it had been standing for a while. so after cleaning the carbs and fuel system. a service and a new battery she was up and running. MOT'd and I was on the road. I rode it for a few hundred miles and the gearbox return spring broke. Its quite common on BMW's of this era. a 20p spring located in the gearbox breaks and stiops the bike chjanging gear.

I took it down to http://www. mhmotorcycles. co. uk/ a BMW specialist in Bromley. he fixed the gearbox and went through the bike and copuldnt beleive that it has the mileage it had looking at the engines internals.   Now she is all fixed and time to find a new home after I have piled many ???'s into her.

It starts and runs well. and has rode faultlesly since the repair.

It is fitted with BMW panniers. with one key fitting all. an uopgraded Hagon raer shock. and intercom system (although I havent used this) it comes with a selection of screens anjd a leather Baglux tank cover.   It has bveen maintained well over its years but its age does show in a few places. a few stone chips to the front fairing and some weathering to the metal work. so although she has aged well it isnt showrrom condition which can be expected. The only thing I can see that needs doing is a little tune and possibly a couple of disks in the near future as the front brake (works brilliantly) but has a slight pulsing through the lever (me being a bit fussy).
