"S" models and US models were not specifically designed for sidecars and the R50/2 only for lightweight Steib LS200 sidecars or lighter makes. The R60/2 was specifically designed for Steib sidecar duty. with factory sidecar mounts on frame. The BMW airheads "S" model sports bike are designed for sports riding. not sidecar use. The BMW R60/2 is the correct bike designed for Steib LT200 sidecar. Perhaps the most famous BMW rider of the 1960s was Danny Liska. who took R60 models from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego in one trip. and from Europe's North Cape to South Africa's Cape of Good Hope in a second journey. His book about the first trip. Two Wheels to Adventure (Alaska to Argentina by Motorcycle). was published in 2004. The Earles forks are also specific for sidecar duty on these models. although the rake can be reduced to the rear setting for solo riding. The triangular front Earles fork. named after its designer. Englishman Ernest Earles. precluded any front-end dive during heavy front braking. which is common with telescopic front forks. It also worked well in sidecar duty. Though heavy and ponderous in turning. the Earles fork gave the old Beemer a steady and reassuring ride. They were used by deliverymen and tradesmen in the early Sixties and earlier. Very few in the World have survived. This delivery box has been custom finished with a Walnut interior. Currently only Polish made Steib LT-200 replicas are available for $6. 00 (without shipping charges). They do not have the crash bar or original easy on/off clamping system. We currently have the coffin lid removed to accommodate our standard poodles and other dogs. We built a custom hardwood pen to insure our poodles safety during transit. Have a look at the locks made of stainless steel and polished aluminium. The surface of the arched lid is perfect for carrying the logo of your business or club. The cab is made of steel and can be locked by key. It is suspended on a rubber-ring system. The chassis is similar to the LS 200.
