Description

It is with great trepidation that I am selling my beloved R100.

We are on a trip in our motorhome of long duration.

The bike was supposed to go with us I had installed a 1000lb bike rack on the back that was purchased here on EBay.

If you are considering purchasing one talk to me the rack nearly folded in half as we were loading it the day we were leaving.

Thecarrierwas left on the side of the road and the bike stashed at my buddies house in San Clemente CA.

We are planning to return sometime in the fall to pick up our antique sidecar bike but will have no room for the R100.

Rather than letting it sit for a year or more I have decided to sell the bike.

It was built as a bike to keep no matter what and has the best of everything.

This bike has all the available options and many accessories that are rare and period correct.

Itwas built asa rider for the high speed Southern California freeway system.

It is ready to go just about anywhere... at speed.

First off the bike is a 1977 R100/7 I have had many of these bikes and stashed many parts from the bikes I have parted out over the years.

I never liked the later gas tanks so when I repainted the bike I used a very clean rust free1976 R90 tank that I had.

The black paint job was done by one of the local paint legends in So Cal as a personal favor as he usually doesn't doimported bikes.

The pin striping is flawless and shows no ridgeunder the many layers of clear coat.

It also has a rare and desirable Wixom Ranger with a new tinted windshield from Gustafson Plastics.

There is a Factory BMW Airhead clock in the fairing (that keeps accurate time).

The motor is from my old R100s that was involved in an accident the motor was unscathed.

It has Nikasil cylinders with new rings under a set of 1979 R100RT Big Valve heads with fresh 40mm Bing Carburetors.

A new Factory Oil Cooler keeps everything cool at speed.

An Optima battery sits in the powder coated battery box and supplies all the cranking power you could want.

The Front end was rebuilt a couple of years ago with the internals cleaned out all new rubber bumpers and seals were installed.

It has dual disc brakes with new Factory Pads installed and stainless brake lines.

The rear shocks are Nivomats are low mileage and work flawlessly.

The rear drive is a 32/11 from an early/5 and appears to have been taken off with very few miles (as a lot of them were).

It keeps up with the traffic on the Interstate without issue itwill go fast enough to get arrested.

It is equipped with the later model saddlebags they will hold a full size helmet and enough stuff for a long road trip.

I have a freshly reupholstered Teutonic 1000 mile solo seat on it (rare and plenty expensive for a nice one).

It also comes with a stock seat that I used for the occasions that my wife rode on it.

New Michelin Pilottubeless tires on Snowflake rims are on the ground.

And the speedo and tach work perfectly the speedo was recalibrated for the high rear end.

If you are looking for an Airhead that is usable as a day to day rider with all the whistlesand bells this is it.

It has a few scuffs but no dings or dents it shows really well.

The Bike is located in San Clemente CA you are welcome to have a look but be aware that it is at a friends house and he is showing it and storing it as a favor.

If you have any questions give me a call my name is Mike (949) 547-8388 We will be somewhere between Kansas and Atlanta while the auction is going leave a message and I will get back to you. E mail works but I may be awhile getting back to you.

I obviously can't help with shipping and neither can my friend it will need to be picked up in San Clemente CA - after the funds have cleared.

Thanks for looking!

~~ A couple of questions were postedregarding use as a daily rider...

Up until we left on our trip May 1st the bike was used locally on a daily basis. I also rode it on a 125 mile round trip to my office in San Diego once a week or so. It has seen many more miles than my newer BMW as it is more nimble in traffic. I rode it to Oregon last summer without issue. My only caution is that this bike is nearly 40 years old it is not a new Honda I have taken this type of BMW cross country many times while not perfectly trouble free when there is a problem they are fairly easy to troubleshoot and repair. Maintenance is notoriously simple. It still has points and a condenser while some would change them out for an electronic unit I have found that a spare set in the bags can take care of just about any ignition problems in short order. With an electronic ignition you are generally stuck when they go south. It also DOES NOT drip oil.If you would like to look at the bike I can arrange it for you. Thanks for the interest!Mike
