Description

1972 BMW R75/5 Iconic Blue Toaster Triple Matching Original Shaft Driven Beauty

1972 R75/5 first year of both chrome panel “Toaster” tank and tachometer.

Functional for daily riding or touring.

Excellent candidate for restoration to a Correct Period Show Bike:

Original Lapis Blue Toaster Tank on 43 year-old classic with nothing repainted.

Data: Triple matching VIN plate engine & frame 2991937 in photographs.

VIN tag on steering head: “R75/5 5/72 Munchen 2991937”.

73474 miles on all working odometer speedometer pioneering tachometer!

Toaster tank is likely original; it matches blue paint of fenders.

There are small dents in toaster chrome and original faded blue paint.

Electrical: All instrument lights in speedometer assembly are working.

Original nail-style ignition key works.

Headlight working; chrome headlamp ring has a dent.

Turn signal indicator lights working along with green flashing light in headlamp assembly (photo).

All turn signals and brake lights working. Horn works but is not very loud.

Kick start only; electric starter is present but failed in June 2014.

No attempt made to diagnose the electric starter problem; kick starting is a breeze.

Bing carburetors are the matching pair: 64/32/9 Left and 64/32/10 Right.

Mufflers are likely original and have some spots in the chrome but no cracks; amazing longevity!

Metzeler Me33 Laser front tire Metzeler Perfect Me99A Laser rear tire (<3000mi)

and wheels are balanced and excellent. Fork boots are excellent. Peg rubber is very good.

Rear view mirrors are very nice after market installed by previous owner.

Rubber items do not shine because they were not treated with anything oily that shines!

Leather bench seat has two tears on right front now taped;

front seat mount bracket on frame is missing.

Seat latch button works but seat lock is missing.

Left foot rubber was removed because it interfered with kick start lever return.

Maintanence:

New Karcoma Right petcock installed May 2014 left petcock works.

New Yuasa YUAM2219B 51814 battery activated and installed May 2014.

Oil changed (76 ounces) with new BMW oil filter 19 October 2014 before winter storage.

Clean float bowls this spring and started on third kick.

Purchased in Oregon in July 2013.

Toured 700 miles from Oregon to Montana in July 2013 and then ridden ~2000 miles locally.

Mileage is about 47 miles per gallon premium unleaded fuel.

Oil consumption is minimal. There is no smoke there are no drips.

This motorcycle has tremendous low end torque.

Four speed transmission shifts down with a teutonic clunk but is solid.

Braking is strong and true.

Started with one kick and ridden today 12 June 2015!

Original tool tray with tool kit with tattered pouch wrapper under are included.

Tire pump is included. Original bent and frayed instruction manual is included.

What is original is only my opinion as there have been one or more owners unknown to me;

you be the judge from the detailed photographs compared to such as “R75/5 Toaster J Dean”

or period brochures. Some current “Toasters” have been converted from other slash 5 styles

and many have been repainted and have aftermarket mufflers; etc.

On sale locally so it can be sold locally until 12 hours before auction ends.

Montana Title is in hand ready to be signed to your ownership.
