Description

This BMW R75/5 has beenequippedwith a Corbin Gunfighter seat 'euro' style low handle bars and stripped of extraneous reflectors and such to turn it into a 'cafe racer' style bike. I have retained the turn signalsforconvenienceand safetywhich could be removed to add to the 'cafe' look. A standard double seat also comes with the bike although I do not know if it is original. This bike embodies the evolution of the /5 line containing the most powerful engineequippedto /5s and being the long wheel base version that was only produced in the last months of the last year of /5 production. The LWB factory modification to the model extends the rear swing arm in order to improve handling and provide room for a larger battery without losing the kickstarter. The four-stroke two cylinder horizontally opposed air cooled 'Boxer' engine is rightfully one of the most popular and identifiable motorcycle engines ever made. It gives the 750cc bike upwards of 50HP and 44 ft. lbs. of torque to take it from 0-60 in less than 6.4 seconds. The combination of the famed 'Boxer' engine large Bingcarburetorsand battery ignition as well as a kickstarter make for a very reliable bike even after all these years. The four speed gear box shifts smoothly with the dry single plate clutch. This bike is a great daily driver and needs nothing in order to remain so. The tires are in good condition fluids have been changed regularly and everything works as it should. Please be aware that like most of these bikes the fuel petcocks leak if not turned off when the bike is not running. This is a very common issue. Here is a video of the bike running from a cold start on 6/20/2015.

While the condition of the bike is quite good for it's age some work would be required to turn it into a show quality bike. This includes:Buffing out paint swirlsFixing what appears to be a minor clearcoat issue on the top of the tank (it's not very noticable and I wasn't able to make it show up well in pictures this afternoon I will update the pictures tomorrow when I can get better (worse) lighting that may be able to show the issue).Addressing some surface rust issues particularly on the steel parts (I bought some rust remover gel today and will give it a shot updating the listing with close-ups of these areas).Repairing some minor paint chipping consistent with the age of the bike.Addressing some holes/chipping left over I believe by the removal of the bike's reflectors/etc. These are hidden from casual observation on the back fender between the rear of the seat and the license plate mount.Addressing some patina on chrome parts and the blue/gold discoloration or 'bluing' of the first section of the exhaust pipes.Replacing the driver's side left BMW badge that has yellowed and is flaking.Replacing rubber parts that are still in good and perfectly serviceable condition but not show-shiny.And whatever else you decide needs fixing depending on the level of perfection you seek. For some people only a complete tear-down and rebuild will satisfy though this bike would make an excellent starting point for such a project. The motorcycle is located in Boulder CO which is just north of Denver. Independent inspections are not only welcome but encouraged. I will be happy to make myself and the bike available for these appointments and coordinate with the inspector of your choosing. If you have any specific concerns about any part of the bike I am happy to take and upload pictures as to detail the part or parts in question upon request. Please avail yourself of both my help in answering specific questions as far as my knowledge goes and taking additional pictures as well as the opportunity to hire an independent inspector and come take a test drive or just check it out if you are in the area (though test drives are predicated on $6000 cash in hand in case you wreck the bike and must be limited to my neighborhood as the bike is unregistered and uninsured). Perhaps contact a motorcycle mechanic out of the Boulder craigslist or call around to shops in the area for recommendations in order to find an inspector. Do take advantage of these opportunities and be sure you want it when you bid particularly if you are buying the motorcycle sight unseen as the bike is offered for sale without the option of a refund except where expressly permitted and mandated though eBay.In order to guarantee your right to the bike and to prevent re-listing a non-refundable deposit of $1000 is due via paypal within 48 hours of the end of the auction.Shipping co-ordination and cost is the responsibility of the buyer. I will make myself available if you desire local pickup or have a freight truck pick it up. I can not drive the bike to a shipper as the registration and insurance are expired. Thanks for looking and hit me up with any questions.
