Description

This is an awesome bike to start off with for a Cafe Racer build. Original BMW 987cc inline 4 engine laid down on its side for low weight distribution. The bike will go 0-60 MPH in under 4 seconds. Shaft driven single sided swing arm. All Bosch electronics with EFI. All Brembo brakes and master cylinders. This bike was stripped down to nothing and built back up with new or rebuilt parts. The rear of the frame was modified and shortened with a raked up tail loop. The rest of the frame was also detabbed and uncluttered removing all unnecessary items such as fork lock and old body panel tabs. Then a gel cell Odyssey battery was mounted on the rear of the frame under the new rear cowl. A custom cluster housing was fabricated to hold a GPS cluster as well as idiot lights for oil pressure, ater temp, nd nuetral. The Speedhut GPS dual gauge not only clearly displays speed and RPM, t also gives you altitude, ax speed, -60, /4 mile time and speed, DO, rip distance, nd compass direction. The front fender was shaved down and lowered to sit right on top of the tire. The headlight is a custom 7.75" unit from England that has high and low beams. The handlebars are custom fabricated and mount underneath the upper yoke and utilize the factory rubber isolators. This gives you the cafe/clip on look and location without cluttering up the forks and reducing vibration to your hands. All the handlebar controls are the bike specific controls from the factory. Everything works as it should. The front brake master cylinder was rebuild using BMW parts. The clutch cable was also replaced with a genuine BMW unit. The horn is an upgraded one from a Ford Mustang but utilizes the factory switch. It is very loud and hidden from view. The gas tank is stock with original locking cap. Keys are included. The rear body work was custom fabricated and is one of a kind. It features a custom solo seat and a recessed black and white BMW roundel to match the two on the tank. There is no visible mounting hardware for the rear cowl in order to keep the bike clean and sleek. The seat was made from an aluminum seat pan, .5" foam, nd durable faux leather which was professionally stitched. The seat and the riding position is surprisingly comfortable. The rear sets were also custom fabricated from aluminum as well as their mounting brackets. They were moved up and back to increase lean angle and to give the rider a more aggressive riding position. New shifter linkage was fabricated using stainless steel rod and 1/4" rod ends. The rear brake master cylinder is a Brembo unit from a Yamaha R1. This is the cleanest set of rear sets you will find for this bike. The exhaust is completely custom and loud. It utilizes the factory stainless steel primary pipes which go into a custom 4 into 1 collector and then a shorty stainless steel glass packed muffler before being shot out the opposite side of the bike through the curved and mitered tip. Having the exhaust exiting to the right side of the bike gives you a clear view of the beautiful fully exposed rear wheel. One of the coolest, ost practical and unique modifications done to this bike was done to the side stand. It was moved to the right side as well to prevent oil from draining into the cylinders and to help it stand out in a crowd.
This bike originally came from Japan by a U.S. military service man. It was imported to Oregon and then moved to California where it sat for over 10 years. When I purchased the bike it had 31,886 km (about 20,000 miles) on the ODO. This means that this motor isn't even broken in yet. These motors are so robust, hey commonly go over 300,000 miles before needing any major work done. And when they do need work done, hey are also known for being extremely easy to work on. The engine and drivetrain have not been modified so they are extremely reliable and easy to find parts for. The factory radiator and Spal electric cooling fan are unmodified as well and in perfect working condition. The water pump/oil pump combo unit was rebuilt using BMW parts. New 4 hole fuel injectors and NGK spark plugs were swapped as well as a new air filter. I also added a hidden plug for a battery tender to keep the battery topped off if it is going to be sitting for an extended period of time.

Things to consider: This was built to be a show quality bike that could be used as a daily rider.
Due to aesthetic reasons there are no turn signals on the bike. The factory wires and buttons are still there and lights could be added with a little effort if you feel you need them. Hand signals worked fine for me.
The side stand is on the right side of the bike so just keep in mind that it may take a little getting use to.
Also I wanted to mention that there is a very minimal oil leak that I believe is coming from the rear main engine seal. It drips maybe a drop a week. Nothing major at all but I just want to be totally honest so the new owner knows what they are getting. I will remain in contact with the buyer to help answer any questions they may have. This was a passion project for me and I’m very proud of it. The reason I am selling is because at this time I’m not able to take advantage of her and ride her as much as I would like. A lot of time and money has been put into this bike and I don’t just want it sitting in my garage.
I am a fabricator and mechanic by trade. I have a lot of experience building tons of different vehicles from Baja Trucks to Road Racing Mustangs to Electric Cars. This isn’t a first time garage build by some 18 year old kid. I am very skilled and did just about everything on the bike myself from the fabrication to the wiring. I know this bike inside and out. This bike looks just as good in person as in the pictures. It’s a real head turner. If you are local and you would like to see it in person just message me. I will ship the bike if needed but buyer will need to set up shipping details.
