Description

1974 BMW R90/6 Caf? Racer built by Editor Richard Backus of Motorcycle Classics and Dairyland Cycle Insurance in the 2013 Race-To-Rebuild Sweepstakes Series of the magazine. I am the recipient and proud owner of this beautiful and fantastic motorcycle. I have ridden this bike for the last couple of years and really enjoyed every minute of it.

This is a one-of-a-kind, ell-built, ell designed classic bike with some modern day tech gadgets and high quality parts and workmanship. Features include: a digital Motogadget Motoscop Pro gauge setup and sleek modern day switches and controls. Gazi Suspension shocks, uchanans Spoke and Rim black sun anodized rims and stainless steel spokes, ace tech fork brace, ew Mikuni carbs with custom intake manifolds and pod filters, nice throaty Dunstall replica exhaust system, here is some bluing on the headers, rilled rotors and brakes by Spiegler Performance, his sleek custom design is beautifully painted in a two tone classy dark smoke color with lighter highlights, nd hand painted silver pin stripes. Black powder coated chassis, ylinder heads, ngine covers and fork lowers. Custom racer solo seat, ith Ducati racing fairing. Original headlight, ew wire harness powered by a Shorai lightweight lithium battery. Dual petcocks with high quality black fuel system line, nd custom starter cover replaces the stock air box. Rear sets, ew Duro tires, nd a shorter swingarm for tighter improved handling, rushed aluminum signal lights and chrome cats-eye taillight with plate bracket.

No description I could come up with does this very stylish and great performing machine any justice. Do your reading and research online. This BMW has been very publicized. Read the write-ups and view the bike progress photos in the Motorcycle Classics magazine website, heck out Youtube for video. I have not modified this bike in any way and is as I received it, ut with some added mileage!

I received the bike with the original 39,473 miles when I took ownership, t now has just under 40,300 miles. The bike is currently registered and fully insured in Connecticut and has been through the state VIN verification process. CT does not require, or produce titles for bike older than 1983, o I retained the original owners title which will accompany the bike.

Other documentation includes the original owners manual, otogadget operation manual, nstallation information for the Raask rearsets, piegler Performance ABM Peak brake system install and maintenance guide, BoxerCafe.com info for the battery relocation kit, horai battery install and maintenance guide, ace Tech fork and dampening rod setup and use info. Rocky-Point Cycle Mikuni carb Set-up instructions, uro MotoElectrics Voltage regulator install and use information.

The ride and looks of this BMW is a true pleasure and feels awesome. It handles well with plenty of acceleration. Great riding on windy back roads or highway rides. One minor issue I have encountered is the license plate when mounted on the tail light plate bracket was a bit too low for the suspension travel and had found the rear tire causing minimal damage to the bracket. The plate bracket needs to be up a bit higher for added clearance. The carbs could perform better, etting needs minor adjustment.

The folks at Motorcycle Classics Magazine and Dairyland Insurance really out did themselves with this motorcycle. I am forever honored and thankful to be a part of it.

However this beautiful collector needs a proper home with a nice garage, f which I do not have and storage where I keep it when not in use just doesn't seem a fair option for something that nice.

Photos are from the year I acquired the bike and most recently me riding it a couple weeks ago when I entered it in the BritJam classic motorcycle show. Hundreds snapped photos of this bike - a real head turner with a great sound.
