This is a special. one off build. based on a 1990 BMW K100RT 1000cc 4 cylinder touring motorcycle.
The emphasis of this build was to create a bike that would be fun. practical and rewarding to ride yet be individual and purposeful. nbsp;stylistically we went for the organic / industrial look and it worked.
As we live in Dorset. we wanted a bike that would be capable of venturing off the road on to dirt tracks. beaches and forest tracks as well as being fun on the local A and B roads. it would also have to be capable of covering long distances that involve motorways as the bike was going to be used for the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride in London on the 28th September 2014 ( a 500 mile round trip. to be covered in a day).
Mechanically. the bike has been thoroughly checked over and serviced. new parts include new fuel pump. fuel filter. air filter. oil and filter. front brake pads. new spark plugs. new tyres and inner tubes. new fork seals. fork oil and a race spec adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
The bike was stripped to its bare bones and anything that was unnecessary has been removed in a bid to save weight. the frame has been shortened by 7 inches and a custom made rear subrame has been fabricated and topped off with a one off custom made comfort seat. The front forks have been fitted with stiffer springs. heavy weight oil and have been lowered in order to get the bike's geometry correct and speed up the steering. the rear shock is set on its maximum pre load in order to raise the back of the bike slightly. Braced alloy endure type handle bars give plenty of leverage and offer a comfortable and commanding riding position. The original . heavy and ugly BMW instruments have been replaced with a high quality digital Koso unit that displays rpm. speed ( mph or kmh selected by a button). trip meter and the usual warning lights. low fuel light etc. There is a 12volt cigarette lighter type power socket and two USB charging sockets fitted along with waterproof iphone and sat nav holders.
The petrol tank is of alloy construction and is in its raw state (unpainted) and coated with two pack lacquer to preserve the finish. Front and rear mudguards are high quality enduro items. as is the headlight and its surround. the rear number plate. its holder and the rear light holder are made from flexible plastic / rubber so they will not break in off road use. The wheels have been powder coated in satin black and new Continental TKC80 tyres have been fitted. offering good grip on tarmac and more than capable should you wish to venture off road.
This bike was used on the Distinguished Gentleman's ride ( to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer). it devoured the 500 mile round trip with ease and was a real weapon in the London traffic. Footage of the ride is featured in a film that has been made on behalf of Triumph (sponsors of the event). The bike is to be magazine featured and will also be a subject on some well known internet sites.
