The Telegraph has established a fund in memory of our motorcycling correspondent of 15 years. Kevin Ash. Proceeds will assist with the continuing education of his daughters.

This ex-police BMW K1100LTIC bike was bought as a winter commuting bike by my late husband Kevin Ash. As a motor cycle journalist he saw this bike as a good winter commuting bike to the airports. when jetting off to bike launches. This bike also gave him the opportunity to write articles about doing up the BMW. One of the first things he tackled was the forks: he had them re-chromed by Andy Morgan at pittedforks. co. uk. I have lots of pictures of the various stages of the re-chroming.

The wheels have been fitted with a new Avon Storm ST front and an Azaro ST rear tyre. as recommended and supplied by Avon.

Kevin wrote the following in his notes which I found on his computer: ?ˆ?The TIC bit means it?ˆ™s definitely a police spec bike from Berlin and would have come to the UK in White (Creamy white). The bike was prepared by our PDI department on 15-07-1993 and was sent to Sussex Police. It was ordered in the Yellow colour apparently the Fleet Manager had a fetish for Hi-Vis. I guess this was just before the better quality 3M reflective was introduced. ?ˆ?

 Kevin had been given a little history on the bike by the previous owner: ?ˆ?the bike had been used by the Sussex Police in the escort at the funeral of Princess Lady Diana?ˆ?.

The bike has been started up last year and it ran on two cylinders. Kevin wasn?ˆ™t convinced the mileage on the clock was genuine.

The buyer needs to organise transport to collect. Viewing of the bike during the auction can be arranged.
