Up for adoption here is a very NICE and very ORIGINAL 1981 BMW R100RS 1000cc airhead sport tourer. in EXCELLENT RUNNING condition!  Original Red Smoke paint has the usual sun fading everywhere except the tank - previous owner must have kept a tank cover on the bike for most of its life. except for a couple of scratches the tank is GORGEOUS. NO significant dents or dings anywhere. just a couple of very shallow almost imperceptible indentations right at the front edge of the seat (I never even noticed them until inspecting the bike today!).  I did some minor repair work on the left side of the upper fairing and had it re-painted to more or less match the "faded" look of the rest of the bodywork. otherwise the paint work is ALL original.  Overall cosmetic condition is VERY GOOD as you can see in the photos - the bike is super clean. NO rust. NICE chrome on exhaust system. aluminum parts NOT corroded or oxidized. NO tears. holes or defects in seat cover. just has the nice patina of a well-used and well-cared-for airhead BMW!

Just over 77. 7K original miles currently showing on the speedo (and counting - I ride this bike almost every day). which is probably 2 or 3 engine rebuilds for the BSAs and Triumphs I usually ride. but this is a BMW and it is still very much in the prime of its life!  Engine fires right up warm or cold. runs rock solid and strong with NO smoke. NO funny noises. clutch does NOT slip or drag. 5-speed trans shifts cleanly and works great.  All oils have been changed within the last 200 miles - engine. gearbox. drive shaft & 32/11 final drive - this bike is literally ready to RIDE. and I would not have a second thought about jumping on it and heading off across the country. north to Alaska. south to wherever (OK I might want a new rear tire first)!  Tires have good tread. front VERY good. rear getting towards the end of its life. good for another couple thousand miles depending on your riding style (Metzeler ME33 Laser on the front. ME55A Metronic on the rear). brakes are good. suspension has been upgraded with some very tasty additions - Koni shocks on the back. and a fork brace (CC Products or San Jose BMW?) up front - this is the best-handling liter airhead I have ever ridden!  It also has a brand-new gel battery for plenty of cranking power.  All electrics work as-new. including the clock and voltmeter.  The bike also has a Brown sidestand - again a very useful airhead mod/upgrade. and a huge improvement over the stock retracts-when-you don't-want-it-to stand!  The only "flaw" or issue that could use attention (that I can think of) is the centerstand - it is on the bike and it is straight. but the lands are worn and it pivots too far forward. so that both wheels are still on the ground when the bike is on the centerstand. and it is more difficult than it should be to get it off the stand.  Solution is to weld up the lands on the stand. Or just don't worry about it (my approach!) since the Brown kickstand works so well!

Last but not least. the bike also has a pair of Fiamm horns installed - these things are LOUD - guaranteed to knock that texting teenager in front of you back to reality!

Frame and engine numbers match (of course) 6225342. clean California title is still in previous owners name. signed properly by him. last registration was 2005. the bike has dropped off the DMV system in California.  No issue at all for any out-of-state transaction. title is valid. if you are in California you can re-title and register this bike for current registration fees only - NO back fees or penalties!  If I didn't have 3 other airheads in the garage (none of which receive the love and attention they deserve) there is no chance I would EVER consider selling this bike. and I know I'LL MISS IT WHEN IT'S GONE!!  What this means to you is that. if it ends up in YOUR garage. you will be VERY HAPPY!!!
