Well maintained sport touring airhead boxer. Ready to go. All instruments and indicators work. All lights and switches work. Clock works. Foot pegs and grips in nice proper shape. Shifts nicely and as an airhead is supposed to. Center stand. original side stand. Brown's side stand are all there. I offer this bike for sale with either a vintage Corbin Gunfighter seat or a Corbin Dual Canyon seat. either seat is in very good shape. (if interested in both seats. please negotiate with me). Two removable BMW keyed cases in good condition. all six locks work with the same key. hand straps for carrying are intact and strong. cases have hooks for your bungee cords or straps. no cracks. but do have a couple properly drilled holes for previously used comm wires which have been taped over (sounds worse than it is. it's clean and proper). Includes BMW toolkit which I believe to be original and complete. Includes Rider's Manual which I believe to be original. Includes what I believe is the original folding key. I also bought a spare folding key and had it cut and I used that one. There's also a flat key. Inline clear fuel filters added both sides after petcocks. Fuel petcocks work. Paint is in very nice shape and all the RS decals are there and it all gets the bike compliments. This motorcycle was originally a Canadian market bike. I purchased it in early 2008 from another MOA member near Toronto. He rode the RS 4 hours to my home and we went to US Customs to process it into the United States and I paid for his air ticket back home. I registered the RS in Pennsylvania as a 'classic' motorcycle which requires an annual safety inspection and a sticker. The consideration you need to make of a Canadian motorcycle is that the speedo and odometer are in metric measurements. So the odometer reads 78. 26 km which converts to 48. 31 miles. The speedometer being metric means that you need to understand the ~. 62 conversion factor while you ride. So a reading of 100 km/hr = 62 mph. Sounds like work. but I used that to test my awareness and fatigue. If I can't easily do the conversion in my head. it's time for a break. The metric factor also stirs conversation at tech sessions. parking lots and the gas station. I have a maintenance file I kept which I will pass with purchase. Primary maintenance items during my ownership include. but are not limited to:new Nippendenso starter motor 10/2008 to replace failed Valeo starter. This part failed in my driveway when I planned to go for a ride one day so I rolled it back into the garage. I obtained the Nippendenso from Rick Jones at Motorrad Elektrik. When I replaced the starter motor. I did the research and found that what was recommended by the club included:new BMW Ignition Control Unit (12142325284) 10/2008 @ 72. 44kmnew BMW Ignition Coil (12131244426) 10/2008 @ 72. 44kmnew BMW Ignition Wires (12121243182) 10/2008 @ 72. 44kmnew BMW starter relay (61361389105) 10/2008 @ 72. 44kmso I just did them proactively. new 12V30amp BMW Westco battery 10/2008 @ 72. 44km and another in 2013obtained a proper OEM battery retainer rail kit to secure the batteryI decided to go ahead and do the Omega Alternator as offered by Rick Jones at Motorrad Elektrik. 1/2009BMW 20W50. hinged BMW filter (11421337575). gasket. washers 4/2010 - I bought these as a packaged kit. New Metzeler Lasertecs 90/90-18 51H front. 120/90-18 65V rear 11/2010Garaged and covered by me and appears previous owners kept it inside as wheels and paint are nice. I have the motorcycle on a Battery Tender when garaged. If I know I am going to not ride for a few weeks. I shutoff the fuel about 1/4 mile from home and burn down the fuel then drain the carb bowls. Upon your purchase. I am open to considering riding the bike to deliver it to you. That said. I am 53 years old and can't commit to this until we talk. It depends mostly upon how far away you are located and I would be asking for all my travel costs to be covered in both directions. Otherwise. I will cooperate with your shipping company to get the bike rolled or ridden from my garage to their truck/pallet. which you arrange at your cost. I've done my best to accurately write up this listing. It is possible that some detail I wrote is slightly off or a date is wrong. So if you are serious. contact me to make arrangements to come see the bike. talk with me. and review my maintenance folder. There are no test rides. I am a member of the Airheads Beemer Club (ABC). Give me a call if you are interested in purchasing the bike. Please serious inquiries only. Alan at 724-554-7074

On Dec-16-14 at 05:57:03 PST. seller added the following information:12/16/2014:Added two pictures. taken today in the garage. of miscellaneous bits among the inventory of maintenance parts that go with the motorcycle. Pictured are just a few of the parts. such as. a hinged oil filter in box. air filter in box. carb float. and BMW crush washers. gaskets. and seals for the various plugs for the fluid drain holes & fill holes. The parts are organized by individual zip lock bag and labeled with BMW P/N and/or size and/or a meaningful usage name label. This organization of parts made it easy for me to grab what I needed for a task. And should help you. I believe I have a parts inventory of everything that is commonly required for DIY airhead maintenance. And then some. So you will be able to look at the bag P/N. reference it in the online microfiche at one of the many BMW sites available. and then you'll know where it is to be used.
Consult a manual for torque specs and check out the websites of airhead experts and peer enthusiasts such as Snowbum. Largiader. Internet BMW Riders. Motorrad Elektrik and others. A common example is the bag of oil pan drain plug crush seals A18x22 p/n 07119963300. An example of a reference website is Max BMW Motorcycles or Bob's BMW websites (eBay does not permit sellers to place an address here). Select the Parts Fiche for the 1989 BMW R100RS in Parts or Service. Click on 11-EngineScroll down and click on Diagram #11_1783 Oil PanNote item 14 is the crush seal A18x22 to be used for the oil pan drain plug each time the oil is changed p/n 07 11 9 963 300This bike comes with a small zip lock bag of those seals. So what's pictured and accompanies the motorcycle is a solid inventory of such bits. This parts inventory should allow you to perform these common tasks one or more times each and in the process to learn this airhead's bits and go from there. You should of course anticipate that you will need to order some bits yourself. just this stash helps get you started.
