Talked to original owner and he told me that the motorcycle was used on the farm since new and was pretty sure he did not race it unless "chasing cattle" was considered racing. I brought it home and spent a lot of time thoroughly cleaning the MX'er. I filled the spark plug hole with diesel and left the bike alone for a couple of weeks. Always paranoid when I get involved in a motorcycle that has sat a long time so I always fill the cylinder with some chemical. Bike kicked over fine and the kickstarter return spring does not function. There is no compression when kicking the 500 currently. No strange noises emanate from the engine when kicking it over and at minimum a top-end rebuild is mandatory on even a running vintage racer. The clutch pulls in with no fuss. The transmission shifts all four gears (one down/three up). The shifter is loose on the shifter splines and looks like the attached bolt is an afterthought. I cleaned out the aluminum tank with acid bathroom cleaner and the interior is in great shape with the original petcock functioning correctly. The throttle functions correctly but the slide on the Amal is very tight and I have not looked at it (typically the slide bores get out of round and one can learn about fixing them but getting a Mikuni easily solves this issue). The bolts all appear to be WHITWORTH threaded and there is no "East Coast" rust and just the nice patina of age. I was impressed with this BSA because it is very unmolested. I intended to make this a vintage AHRMA racer and I added the rear and front fenders. K&N air filter along with the front number plate as a "mock-up" to get a better picture of what the B50 looked like. Please see ALL the photos in the listing and there is a walk-around video too. Last photo in listing shows what I had intended to make the BSA into. Early BSA B50mx in magazines sported a white frame and more purple accents on the tank and side panels and I always thought these early versions looked pretty cool. I try to make my listings as informational as possible so that there should be no question of what the winning bidder is receiving. Please check my feedback and contact me with any questions that I have not answered in this listing. BOTTOM LINEThis a 44 year old offroad motorycle that needs to be restored.
