1965 BSA Lightning - (UPDATE) This motorbike underwent a full restoration and engine rebuild about 8 years ago by my father's mechanic. Rarely ridden and kept garaged. However, y father didn't keep great records and so I have no records of the full restoration. I inherited the bike in 2013 and had it shipped to New Orleans from Colorado. I had the carburetors rebuilt and a general inspection done by a local mechanic that specializes in British bikes. Overall condition is near excellent. This bike isn't a museum piece but could be if someone wanted it to be without much effort. It's also a fun bike to ride and has that BSA feel for those who enjoy the older British bikes.
Some updated information about this bike (kindly offered by another ebay motorcycle fan) -Considering that this bike is not a factory correct restoration but a ride-capable restoration I've added the information below and revised pricing accordingly.
The bike is a '65 but there are elements of the bike that were restored with '68/69 Lightning parts. The headlight and tail light assemblies are not '65 originals. The electrical system was upgraded from the original 6V system to a 12V system. The battery is a 12V.The petcocks are not '65 and the inline fuel line filters to the carbs are not original either.Gas tank may be a '69.
I have kept the bike under a full cover and keep the tank empty and batter on a trickle charger.Engine is still in the 'break in' period considering it has just under 200 miles on the rebuilt engine.Bike shows of the typical spot rusting on areas of the chrome exhaust for a bike this age.Missing the fork dust covers but the fork springs are clean and excellent shape.Frame is straight and clean. Never been laid down.Minor paint chipping of paint on the gas tank but no rusting.Engine is clean.Tires are in riding condition and safe for town cruising.
I will include trickle charger with the bike and cover.
The reason I am selling this bike is because I no longer ride and I don't want it to just sit there. This is a bike that deserves to be ridden.Buyer should expect to pick up or have arrangements made with a transit company to pick up the bike.
