Description

I’m selling the last few bikes of my 30 year collection. This is my last BSA and my favorite: a 1966 (first year) for the Spitfire. I restored this bike some 15 years ago and rode it, aybe 200 miles. It hasn’t been started in probably 4 years so you may need to pull the carbs but I’m guessing add fuel, ickle them and voila.

Naturally, his is a matching numbers piece. I believe the side covers and tank are mostly original paint. They looked too good to redo. If you’re familiar with the mark, ou know the ‘66 tank white coves were painted differently than the two later year models. This one has the extremely desirable Dunlop alloy wheels laced with Buchanan stainless spokes and the correct 190mm front brake. If I remember correctly, laced these wheels myself and have a slight lump in the front wheel that will need to be trued. The ‘66 Spitty came with GP carbs which were for racing. They have no idle circuit so you had to continually blip the throttle when not moving. The GP’s were long gone when I bought this bike but I had a clean set of matched monoblocs which worked well and looked period correct with the alloy velocity stacks. The ‘66 Spitfire originally came with cast steel Amal levers but it now has a genuine set of Doherty alloy levers which pull like butter. I think I paid $300 for them 10 years ago. Now the Asian copies are all you can find. Tires are new, s is the cloth wire harness and I sourced most of the bright work. I’m selling the bike with three tanks: the original tank pictured on the bike, n NOS tank that was trimmed incorrectly that I had to patch and an original BSA (hard to find) long range European tank. I bought this bike as a basket case with the bottom half of the motor already done. If I remember correctly, he barrels were standard bore, ut that was a long time ago so please don’t hold me to any specs. My guy did the head with new valves, uides and a fresh grind. The bike ran fine, ut clutched and shifted exceptionally well as I remember. I replaced the basket and installed new springs, lates and discs. I do have a non-finned head cover if you prefer and other parts and manuals if you’d want. I also have several speedos and tachs as I never got the original ones with the bike. Pretty sure I sourced the correct ratios. Winning bidder can have the choice.

Just checked my file and see I have a clean, igned Illinois title. Not sure why I never retitled it in my name but shouldn’t be a problem. I’d like a $250 PayPal deposit at the conclusion of the sale and cash or a wire transfer for the balance. I’m leaving for Florida next Wednesday for two weeks so we can work out shipping or delivery when I return. Sorry for the delay but I wanted to get the ad out there before I left. If you’re close enough to come take a look, lease email or call (610-883-0641). I’ll reply to any emails quickly through Ebays system.
