Description

1966 BSA B44 441 Victor Enduro

This is a BSA B44 441 cc Victor Enduro -1966 model -last year of the handsome “round-barrel” engine. The bike is 98% complete and largely original but will need work to get it in usable condition. It would make a great start point for a classic trail bike, re-65 motocross/trialsmachine or full restoration to original spec. The frame and engine numbers match and confirm that it is a genuine “B44E” model.

I bought this BSAabout 5 years ago. I was going tocreate a stripped down woods bike forlocal forest trails or maybe somepre-65 trials. Unfortunately, s they say “life got in the way” –too many othercommitments and competing automotive projects. I had big plans for it and even started collecting together the parts I would need- but never really got around to starting work on it. So I’ve decided it’s time to let it go to a new home.

The previous owner claimed the bike had been a runner though I know it had been standing unused for a while before I got it and I did not see it run at the time when I bought it. I had always intended to take the engine out, trip it, heck it all over and rebuild it anyway so I’ve never actually had it running since. It does spin over smoothly on the kick-starter and has compression but will not start and run currently.

The frame looks to be ingood shape. There’s no evidence of distortion, racking or any other damage. The original paint is intact over much of it. It has the correct factory "bash-plate" (sump guard). The fuel tank is in reasonable condition but does have a couple of small dents. The correct short trials style seat is present. The seat covering is mainly intact but is starting to come undone in places and will need re-covering at some point. The original hi-level style exhaust is in good serviceable shape. The chrome finish is tarnished on the header pipe but not rusting through. The chrome on the stubby original muffleris quite good.

The wheels are in soundusable condition, ith no broken, ent or loose spokes. The chrome on the rims is pitted with rust in spots so they are not cosmetically great. The tires are trials pattern and both have a reasonable amountof tread left on them. They are obviously a few years old but do not appear to be perished or dry rotted so I think they should be quite usable to get you started at least. The tubes seem to hold good pressure. The original chromed-steel mudguards are in reasonable shape and certainly usable. The chrome would polish up OK, ut is not perfect.

The lights and speedometer are present and correct. I haven’t tested them (wasn’t planning to use them for my build and they are only powered when the engine is running) but they look complete and undamaged. The wiring all looks complete. The control cables are all in place. They are will function just about, hough the clutch cable is in pretty poor condition and should be replaced

Here are a few small parts that I know are missing: (these should all be readily available through the usual BSA parts suppliers like C&D Autos andothers)

  • The rubber connector tube between back of carb and air box.

  • The “fulcrum pin” bolt that retains the foot-brake lever on its pivot.

  • Rubber fuel hose between tank fuel-cock and carb.

I’ve set the starting price at what I think is a fair and realistic level. I’m keen to get it sold but don’t want to just give it away. Please feel free to ask any questions. The motorcycle has a clear SC title.
