Description

1960 MATCHLESS G3 EX W. D. (A. F. S) EXCELLENT RUNNER

The AJS & Matchless range of singles have always been amongst my favourite machines of the period. They are just so pleasant for everyday pottering around and despite what some say. if set up correctly they have a reasonable enough turn of speed. This one is set up correctly! It briskly accelerates to 60mph + and does so in a very pleasant and enjoyable manner. The brakes are excellent. handling is superb. (The AMC duplex frame is often under-rated and yet gives perfect handling for ordinary road use. )

The bike starts easily and sound lovely. There are no mechanical noises and no smoke. It ticks over like a dream and pulls clean through the gears. It has been fitted with Boyer electronic ignition but remains on the original  6Volt set up with a modern sealed battery. It charges well.

The Smith?ˆ™s 120mph speedometer is in good working order.

Gearbox & clutch are A1. This is a fun bike to ride. Preserving momentum is the key to riding these 350s and I reckon pound for pound they?ˆ™re as much fun as you can have on a classic bike!

This 1960 G3 example is actually an ex army AFS machine. The original registration XYM 692 is one of a batch of ?ˆ?XYMs?ˆ? that were ordered by the War Office in 1960. The bike comes with an AJS & Matchless Owners?ˆ™ Club Certificate of Authenticity. which confirms gearbox. engine & frame are all correct for XYM 692 and that it was supplied to the War Office on 30th March 1960. Frame number A74258. engine number 60/G3 39242. date of registration 29th April 1960.

The bike comes with MOT until October 2015 and is registered for free ?ˆ?Historic Class?ˆ? road tax.

Cosmetically the bike is very clean. tidy and presentable but not pristine or concours by a long way! It is a used old bike!

The stove enamel on the frame is in excellent condition and is clearly of a very good quality standard. The tinware has generally good paintwork. The lining on the tank is not particularly good. /p>

Both rims are past their best chrome wise. Spokes are good and clean and rust free.

Front tyre is as new K70. rear is hardly use K70

Seat is in very good condition. Exhaust also very good. There is no fin damage on the  engine and it?ˆ™s nice & oil tight.

This is a cracking 350cc single. an easy starter with sweet crisp motor - just the job for autumn crusing around the leafy lanes!

Don?ˆ™t miss this above average Classic single with that bit extra of history!

On 22-Oct-14 at 11:49:41 BST. seller added the following information:

Please note:The MOT is until 17th July 2015 not October 2015 as stated. Also to clarify. registration number  is XYM 652. not XYM 692 as erroneously displayed on the front. (I have now amended this!)
