Description

BSA A50 SPORT 1966. This seems to be a rare example of the A50 as it has a WASP twin carb. head and the enlarged engine sprocket door in the crankcase.   These engines were produced for the American market for two years only in '64 and '65 with uprated performance.   As bought. it was fitted with a 17 tooth engine sprocket. this has been changed to a 21 tooth sprocket to give relaxed engine running at cruising speeds. A new set of carburetors has also been fitted on the advice of a specialist and it is now a first kick starter. Apart from replacing some footrest rubbers and some flush oil changes this one has needed very little renovation.   I have just returned from a very enjoyable week at the Manx GP where it ran very well. It is in good. unmolested condition but does have some small imperfections in the paintwork. I have fitted a pair of 'Goldie' type silencers as I like the looks. and the sound. but the originals will come as part of the sale. Their is a problem with the left hand cylinder in that it wll smoke on the over-run. our pet specialist has diagnosed this to be valve guide(s) so this engine will benefit from a top end refresh.   As this is an oil tight engine and performance is not affected I have not gone any further. I have enjoyed riding her. but. with a garage full of bikes. at least one has to go.   I just don't have the time to ride and maintain her as she should be. Thanks for looking.
