Description

Reason for sale and cost; The bike came to me a couple of years back having been built some years prior and raced to death. Everything was worn out. During my ownership everything has been replaced professionally.  That said. now that its done I just dont love it.  Don't get me wrong. its a lovely bike but I'm and Enfield man at heart.  So much so in fact that I am hunting for a  63 - 65 'New-Bullet' unit  construction 350 for a similar value to the B40. I can almost hear the words 'exchange deal'.  Like similar follys motorcycle renovation is not always a game for profit. I will loose money at a three grand sale price so please dont bother me with lower offers. I dont wish to sound terse but I will not respond politely to anything other than three grand cash on collection please.  I am based near Rugby close to junction 18 M1. The bike is literally just restored and not yet run in. although a couple of miles have been racked up. The finish carb set up was by RTS so the bike just needs to be fed tender miles to gain the best from the costly motor work. A final tighten down and adjustment thereafter should result in a very usable and capable bike.  Engine work; Valve seats and guides along with re-bore by Wards Engineering of Rugby. Motor rebuild by Roger at RTS including gas flow. all new bearings. the fitting of a BSA enduro cam and conversion to a Victor gearbox. the ratios of the WD being less suitable for road elements of which it is capable.   New parts; carb. cables. Electrex World CDI. tyres. guards. seat. levers. chains and sprockets. stainless oil tank dipstick etc.  Odds and sods; the side stand is off a Greeves. bars are Renthal. sprockets are Talon. Additional fabrication was by Braunston diesels. The wheels are powder coat yellow because they were in fine order but shy on chrome. The fork tubes have been chromed on the upper portion to allow exposure between the yokes.  I have not put a daytime mot on yet but know the bike will fly through.  Unfortunately I cannot find out who built the bike originally but they chose some good parts to base their project upon.  The numbers suggest the motor is BSA B40 GB originally sold to the army but not used by them in 70/71. Experts tell me the aluminium round barrel is indicative of a very late example.  I have been told that the frame is Victor GP because there is a witness mark to the auxiliary oil tank (which has been removed) the next expert said. no its B50 and the motor must be 60s. Experts ! The tank definitely is Victor GP. I have been offered 400 for that alone. The hubs appear to be late Bantam and the forks B175 / 250.  I have advertised the bike inaccurately as 1960 because. much like the speedo. the registration is one of convenience. 718 UB started life as a 1960 FB Plover that ended up as hardcore. I consulted Swansea who were polite and co-operative and swapped the engine number over and changed the cc to 350.  So its a Francis Barnett Plover with a 350cc BSA engine. Legally.  The bike will be advertised elsewhere so may be withdrawn prior to the advert ending.  Thank you for looking and reading.
