Description

1962 Velocette Viper project 350cc matching frame & engine & original reg!

Here is a super little Velocette Viper that has come through the years without having been restored as such and is now crying out for some love & attention.

The bike is basically very original. It has original matching engine & frame and also still has its original registration number 386 DBC. It has been fitted with alloy guards and a couple of other now easy to replace side covers. Typical of an old bike that has been maintained throughout a period when the spares etc weren’t so readily available as they are now.

The engine turns over very nicely and there are no strange noises. I believd the bike was laid up due to magneto problems and there is currently no sign of a spark from the old Lucas K1F. Controls etc seem nicely set up and the gears all select OK. The clutch frees OK. I reckon a recon mag would get this bike up and running and it could be used as a “ride-restore” type machine. More likely it will be viewed as a complete project and get the full treatment though I expect!

The bike comes with a V5C registration doc. Registration number 386 DBC is the original but is non-transferable. Date of registartion is 5th March 1962. Frame number RS15801 & engine number VR 3368 have been checked in the factory records and are the originals. The stampings on frame & engine are also the untampered with factory originals. Thus making the bike a really viable project!

Cosmetically the bike isn’t too bad!!

The paintwork on the frame is quite decent and I would say it is original.

On the tin ware . especially the tank the paint is flaking in places. The wheel rims & spokes have had a coat of silver paint and this has started to show light rust coming through. The seat has had a non standard recover job. The down pipe is quite good but the silencer has a few dents and has been touched up with silver paint around the mounting bracket!

The petrol tank has been dry-stored and is good inside.

All in all this is an honest little Velo that has made it through the years with its original engine frame & reg. A perfect winter project!
