Description

1959 Velocette Venom 500cc

Here is a beautiful example of one of the most sought after and desirable British singles - the Velocette Venom.

This is a standard Venom. not Clubmanised. just nice and original.

It is a very easy starter (just follow the normal Velo procedure) and it’s away.

The engine runs beautifully. It sounds superb on the exhaust with that typical deep. mellow Velocette beat. There is no mechanical noise in evidence when running the engine stationary but some audible piston slap can be heard briefly in the low-end of the rev range when riding from cold. There is no smoke and the engine ticks over beautifully.

The Smith’s Speedometer is working well. The Lucas 6Volt lighting is working well. New battery fitted. nice bright lights when revved.

Gearbox and clutch are both set up perfectly. Brakes are also brilliant.

This is a very rideable machine. It has a comfortable riding position and handles beautifully as is normal for Velocettes.

It has clearly been set up well and is basically ready to go!

The bike comes with a V5C registration document. registration OSJ 793 (cannot be transferred to another vehicle) Frame number RS13526 & engine number VM 3613 (These are the originals for the bike & the stampings on the frame & engine are the genuine factory stampings!)

The bike wasn’t registered until 25th July 1962 (to Grierson & Graham. Dumfries. Scotland) but according to factory records (copy included) the bike left Velocette on 23rd November 1959. It is therefore eligible for pre-1960 MOT exemption. Also the bike is registered as historic vehicle therefore road tax is free.

Cosmetically the bike is in really lovely condition. It is not freshly restored but it is in superb all round condition. most probably having been restored in the 1990’s.

The enamel on the frame is in good order and is a good quality enamel.

The tinware is all very good but not as new. It is good quality paintwork also.

The wheel rims have really beautiful chrome and the spokes & nipples are stainless.

Tyres are practically unused Dunlop TT100s.

The mudguards are the genuine chrome variety. they polish up very well but on close inspection you can see the chrome is not perfect.

This is a fine opportunity to own a better than average Venom up & running & ready to go! All we need is some Spring- like weather! Don't miss this near-pristine genuine matching engine & frame Venom.
