Fully restored to better than new condition a numbers matching 1967 Bultaco Metralla MK2. All Metrallas imported to the USA came in black and silver. this one was repainted the Canadian imported colors of red and silver. This was completely restored around 8 years ago by the countries best Bultaco expert then it was sold to an owner in San Francisco. After I purchased it I had the tank. fenders and rear wheel sprocket cover repainted. The top end was rebuilt with a new single ring piston and both rear shocks were rebuilt. Last year I replaced the entire exhaust pipe with a new one made in Spain. I only use smokeless oil premixed with gasoline so there is very little smoke compared to the 1960's organic oil used. Metrallas are probably one of the best handling motorcycles even built and won many races in the mid-1960's. The top speed of this 250cc single cylinder two-stroke is claimed by the factory to be 102 MPH. The air cooled front brake is very effective as is the rear brake. Metrallas weigh around 220 pounds giving them great performance and handling. They are a lot of fun to drive on mountain roads. The only issue with 1960's Bultaco technology was anything electrical. These originally came with points. a weak ignition system and a bizarre wiring scheme that stopped the ignition if the rear brake light burned out. The horn was barely audible and the headlight was dim at high RPM and barely visible at idle. They come with a "city light" but if the engine is stopped. nothing electrical worked. So I replaced all the old electrical components with an after market solid-state magneto with electronic spark advance and a DC lighting circuit and regulator. Inside the tool box along with the factory standard oil pump and measuring chart is a very light weight LiFe battery. So this Metralla can do something a stock unit cannot do. it has a very loud horn. a flashing halogen low beam headlight and a High Intensity Discharge high beam. I see a lot of cars pull over I am driving behind when they see a flashing headlight in their rear view mirrors. I also added a flashing brake light. all lights and the horn work when the engine is off. I entered this in the 2012 Venice Vintage Motorcycle Club rally and show and won Best European motorcycle. In 2013 I entered it in the all Spanish motorcycle show in Watsonville and came in second place. The first place winner was a Montesa with 567 original miles. The Montesa road bike was never imported into the USA and most Spanish Motorcycle enthusiasts have never seen one including myself.
