The objective with this build was to achieve something classier than a standard KZ650 while keeping the bike still sport oriented.
The paint job design and striping comes form its bigger brother Z1, his machine in fact wants to be a bridge between the two most wanted and discussed vintage kawasaki motorcycle, he Z1 and the Z1r-TC turbo which only 500 units were made for the US market.
The lines have been cleaned up, iring reduced to the bare minimum, nstruments and controls replaced with more minimalistic looking ones.
We adjusted the stance of the bike by installing longer shocks in the back and slightly lowering the front of the bike.
We wanted to give the buyer the opportunity to reverse everything to original so we didn't get into the chop and weld game this time, he frame is still OEM, ntouched.
The bike can still run the side covers (as you can see in some of the pre-show pics. Other pics available on the internet trough our channels)All the electronics (lithium battery included) have been "hidden" under the seat into a custom tray (in order to free the subframe "triangle" from all the electronic devices)
There's a beautiful article about a very similar built on "Hot Bike"published back in January 1978 Volume 2 No.1(they use a smaller 717cc big bore kit though)
We currently set it on low boost (around 5 psi) to let the motor brake in before pushing to its real potential. We also never went above 8K rpm in our tests, edline is 10.000 RpmThe motor still makes 90HP with low boost (at 8K) with regular pump 91oct gasoline. The bike is capable of handling 10psi of boost with an estimated output between 105/115 HP at 10.000rpm. (Mr.Turbo.com recommends higher octane gasoline for this application)It weights around 400lbsIt's a blast to ride and the amount of thumbs up you get per ride will grow exponentially with this baby. Guaranteed. The fuel is delivered by a single CV 40mm carburetor with accelerator pump and it works like a charm, tarts up within 2 revolution and pulls without hesitation from idle to redline no bogs no bad surprises. The good thing about this bike is that you can cruise all day long without hitting the boost and it behaves like a normal KZ650/CB750 (Obviously faster and with more torque thanks to the big bore kit)but if you twist the throttle up to around 5K RPM the turbocharger will start spooling out and the bike will pull in 3rd-4th-5th stronger than in 1st and 2nd gear,it's a blast to ride and your hands will keep shaking for a while after riding it hard :)For those not familiar with turbos:hitting the boost or not is up to you. Your choice, lways! No sudden tires slips or anything like that. This is not a drag bike, t wans't built for that.It was meant to be ridden, t cruises like no other and and it'll be the hottest bike in your group. This is not a trailer queen.Street legal with turn signals, ail/stop light, orn license plate holder and license light.

Here's a beautiful example of a Resto-Mod KZ built by Magnum Opus Custom Bikes
This bike has been showed for the first time to the public this last weekend at the Handbuilt Motorcycle Show 2016 inAustin,TX 8-10th April. It starts as a 1978 KZ650 where the cylinders have been bored and sleeved to 830cc with a MTC big bore kit from the late 70s.
