Description

This is a story bike so be patient as I lay it out.

I bought this bike way back in August of 2012 from a gentleman in New York City paid $3900 $595 to ship in from NY to NM. It had the race exhaust minus the can so I drove it back and forth to work. Scared the hell out of people it was so freaking loud. I loved it. I bought it to race Battle of the Twins and Sound of Thunder with AHRMA. I started to get it track ready etc...took her to the track and ran her hard and proceeded to drop the crank on it...dead. The shell of that motor now resides in a place of honor on my shop bench.

In the back of my mind I always felt the 999 motor would be underpowered to race against the big Panigales 1098s and 1198s...so I decided to build a middleweight. I found a true 749R motor in Ontario Canada. I paid 1200 CAD for the motor $525 to ship it here. My mechanic is Scott Clonninger at Desert Desmo in Albuquerque. He's built a national championship middleweight Ducati for me...he knows what he's doing.

The idea was to put the 749R motor into the 999S chassis. The S chassis has the adjustable head tube and footpeg rests. It also has the massive aluminum swingarm and just to keep it interesting...a Ducati 1098 front end.

I was told the 749R motor had "only" XXXX kilometers on it. The folks I bought it from were great but I had Scott tear the motor down just to check. And of course it was about to let loose. So....we did a COMPLETE rebuild of that motor. Cranks was sent out to Fox for the whole treatment and while we were at it we added a DucShop 850 kit. You have to source 999 heads to make the DucShop kit work. Pistal pistons etc....Scott sponsors me as a racer so he doesn't charge me for labor. Parts for the 749R motor rebuild were $3989.01. I'm not sure if that is Scott's cost or retail. It's a laundry list of items and I have the print out for the new owner.

The Ducati 848 head design does not compare to the R design especially for racing. It's a very stout motor. Phil Allison at Even Steel Performance dyno tuned her January of this year using VP U4.4 race fuel it made 135.59hp and 68.80 ft/pds of torque. The motor has been run in the throttle sensor has been sorted out and it's fully tuned by Phil at ESP. I have a DynoJet quickshifter new that isn't installed on the bike yet but it's plug and play.

Knowing that the 749R motor is the full race setup and that the big bore kit might make things interesting I found a stock 749 motor and am having ESP rebuild that as we speak. I hope to have the spare motor done in a months time. I will ship that to the new owner at my own expense. Total cost of the ESP rebuild which includes splitting the case and having the crank sent out for balance bearings etc...$4796.00.

Full Ohlins to include stabilizer front forks and rear shock. These were all redone by Mike Fitzgerald Thermosman in December of 2013. Mike wrote: "Well what you have in FGRT 803 Ohlins front forks . They are equipped with the latest 25mm set up in a production fork. The forks now have 1.0n/mm fork springs. The oil level is 170mm. The valving is C5 R4 w/Rev1. New seals and polished tubes. The forks are in great shape. The shock is equally in great shape it has the standard setting with a shaft jet update. Steering dampner is serviced with new seals good shape. Forks $250 Shock $125 Dampner $75 Fork Springs $116 Freight $36.14 Total $602.14.

I planned on racing this bike the year before last but blowing up the stock 999S motor set in motion a project two years in the making. I simply retired from racing before this bike was ready. No expense spared. This will be the 10th bike I've sold since retiring...all the new owners have glowing reviews. I don't build them to just get by...I build them to blister the competition and to win. My feedback speaks for itself.

Again sorry for the long story but it neede to be said. Call if you have a plan or offer. I'm not interested in a trade.

My reserve is $7500 Buy It Now is $8000. Clearclean title. I'm sure I'll remember things as this auction unfolds and I'll be sure to post them up. I have all the receipts and parts invoices. I usually PDF those and post them in pictures but I thought I'd use all the picture space for the bike and extras. The new owner will get ALL the paperwork that I have.

Happy looking and bidding.
