Award winning 1974 Ducati 750 special.
This bike started life as a GT. I found it completely disassembled and hidden in the back of a dark garage in Colorado. The bike had been stored inside but in pieces for over 20 years.
The restoration process took three years and parts were sourced from around the world. The bike was finished in late 09 and has been shown locally and nationally to great acclaim.
In the restoration process I decided to build what I would have loved to see from the factory. I used cues from many of the early Ducati iconic models - the Z-stripe from the Sport, lack and gold colors from the 900SS, urved Contis from the first 750 prototype, nd all of the bodywork was made from molds taken directly from a 1975 Super Sport. The fiberglass tank was made with an ethanol proof coating during the building stage. Great pains were taken to use correct parts like the correct rear-sets bolted to the proper frame welded bungs and the very rare and expensive curved kick-start lever. The engine was built by a local Ducati tech from the old days, e checked the bottom end and it was in fantastic condition so we left it intact and rebuilt the heads and valve train with new parts and a new set of sport pistons. I did add a few modern touches to make sure the riding experience was as good as it could be. The ignition is Dyna electronic with Dyna Coils. The shocks are Works and the front springs are from Race Tech. The front brake uses a German made adapter hub and the floating rotors, alipers, nd master cylinder and are new items for a Ducati 996. Brakes and suspension are as far as I would go to modernize the bike though, he idea was to keep it as close to what the factory could have produced in 1974 as possible. The fly in the tank paint was added as a nod to Cycle Magazine’s coverage of the Ducati race machine they campaigned in the mid 70's. The bike has been internationally recognized with many web features and numerous "people’s choice" and "best of show" awards.
The bike has been ridden a little over 100 miles and it runs and rides beautifully. It has been stored inside my house on display with the carbs and tank dry.
