The ex-Nicolas Cage
2001 Nico Bakker Barracuda TL1000S/R
1967 marked the start of Nico Bakker’s racing career. Riding an Adler motorcycle, e began to develop various modifications to greatly improve the steering and handling characteristics of the motorcycle. Nico moved through Ducati and on to the offerings of the Japanese manufacturers, uzuki and Yamaha.
By 1972 his Suzuki powered and highly modified bike was still not to his satisfaction, nd it needed taking back to the drawing board. The first fully developed Bakker Frame was released in the winter of 72/73 and caused quite a sensation. Fellow riders saw the potential and the Bakker frame company was in business. Boet van Dulmen, il Hartog, ack Middelburg, iacomo Agostini and Johnny Cecotto saw great success with frames built by Nico Bakker.
The Bakker Barracuda is a sensational machine with a Suzuki TL1000S/R engine wrapped up in a Bakker designed and built frame, ade entirely from chrome-moly with an outer diameter of 38 mm and an adjustable swing arm made from specially extruded aluminium. The wheelbase can be adjusted and the rear suspension is fitted with a tiltable system to adjust ride-height, hile a WP absorbs shock. The steering head angle is also adjustable. The aluminium gas tank is a beautifully sculpted design and 5-spoke Marvic wheels with Brembo brakes finish off the Barracuda package.
It is well documented that Hollywood mega-star Nicolas Cage was a proud owner of a Bakker Barracuda and was quoted in the press as saying that it was “the pride” of his collection, nd a bike he “loved tremendously”. Unfortunately, e had to see it for life insurance reasons.
On offer here is that very bike. With a copy of the original California title in Cage’s name to accompany the bike, he provenance is bulletproof.
The bike is offered in excellent original condition, ith only 1,232 miles from new on the odometer. There are no scratches, cuffs or dings to speak of, ires are excellent, hough original and should be considered for renewal if the bike is to be ridden. It has been on static display for several years and could benefit from a freshening service before returning to regular road use.
This is a great opportunity to acquire a rare and exotic piece of motorcycling art, ith excellent Hollywood provenance.
