Purchased this same year model in 1985 when I was 30 years old. 29 years later. I was overcome by an urge to own another shovelhead and so began my search about 2 years ago. Found a completely unmolested example in excellent shape but could not prevent myself from restoring this old bike. I replaced the seat. tires. battery. fuel petcock. starter solenoid. all rubber oil tank and gas tank mounts. handlebar riser grommets. exhaust gaskets. main circuit breaker. speedometer rubber mounts. speedometer drive gear and cable. brake pads. transmission and primary gaskets. intake seals. return throttle cable. front brake line. clutch discs. nbsp;replaced battery and starter wires with Big Balls Cables. Repainted in black. (including frame) Have replacement original decals for front fender "Classic Belt Drive". Pipes in good shape under header wrap. Next money to throw at this project would have been to replace pipes with duals w/fishtails. This bike starts every time at once. nbsp;drives and handles like a shovel is expected to. Runs up through all 4 gears smooth and full power. Have owned three EVO's through the years. but nothing compares to the feeling of riding on top of this kind of iron. This bike feels dialed in putting down the road at 60-65MPH. Try as I might. nbsp;I am unable to ride for more than 30-40 minutes before my lower back gives me trouble . Tried 2 different seats and handlebars to no avail. My loss your gain. This bike attracts attention and starts conversations wherever I go; A real head turner! I have restored automobiles as an enthusiast for years and take great pride in attention to detail. This bike was a fun project for me and I think I get more pleasure from "tooling" than touring.
