Here we have a classic example of an age old scenario which I think people should be aware of. even if this isn't your cup of tea. take heed. This is a 1966 Shovelhead. the first year Shovelheads were available to the general public. and the 66-69 models were shovelhead top ends on generator bottom ends. quite similar to panheads but with the better breathing of the shovelheads. They came in 74" displacement originally. They are a sweet looking bike stock. and were only produced for a mere 4 years before being replaced by the alternator or nose-cone shovels. So this bike was pretty excellent at one point in time. but some yahoo took it upon himself to re-invent the wheel and hot rod this motor to the absolute limits of its metallurgical capabilities. give it a silly cosmetic makeover. and then some. He had it built to an 88" stroker. had the heads ported and flowed and dual-plugged. swapped to electronic ignition. slapped on a super E. an S&S oil pump. took off the original wide glide and put on one off an 89 softail (so that it has disc brakes on the front end) amongst all sorts of other ideas he had to make this poor old motorcycle into some kind of ill-fated creature. Well. you can see what happened. He went too far. This motor is seriously hurt. Both cases are broken. and the front cylinder ear too from what I can see. I'm sure there's nice internals in there. but either it wasn't done properly or it was just too much for this sad little genny to handle. So yeah. don't go too far. This could happen to you. Don't ask for too much out of something. and you probably won't be let down as often. If this stayed a stock 74" i'm sure it would stand a much better chance of being intact and running today. Either you are a tig-welding wizard who can perhaps resurrect these cases yourself. or maybe you have another set of cases. or. whatever. It's going to be a chore. for sure! So everything else is in nice shape. The frame is proper. and still has the correct juice drum and round swingarm as it should in the rear. Transmission shifts just fine. primary looks really nice. it has a cycle electric generator on it. and it has a nice proper oil bag and battery tray. Actually. I put one of my kickers on the trans and it actually spun through and still had compression. despite it's extensive damage. It has a clean and clear Iowa title. and a giant stack of receipts from this other poor guy. I have a for sale sign that came with it where this yahoo was asking $9800. claiming to have $16000 "invested". I can't help but laugh. It's such a sad story. So treat this bike like a rolling basket case. The motor is going to need at least new cases and jugs. I actually got the stock flywheels in the pile which I will include for the winner of this auction. if they want them. If you have any questions. please ask them well before the auction is over!No Reserve.
