HARLEY DAVIDSON FXEF SUPER GLIDE FAT BOB CUSTOM

1985 C REG.   MOT SEPTEMBER 2015 . LAST OF THE 4 SPEED CHAIN DRIVE

MY FIRST H-D WHICH I OWNED FOR 2 YEARS  NOW SELLING TO FUND NEXT  H-D.  I BOUGHT IT AS IT IS AND JUST ADDED BIT OF EXTRA BLING.

NOW ABOUT THE BIKE; 

ORIGINALLY A 1340CC  BUT HAS GOT EVO BIG TWIN STYLE   S&S 96 CI  (1580cc) ENGINE WITH S&S 585 CAM AND S&S SUPER E CARB. S&S IGNITION certificate from S&S cycle  inc. nbsp; showing engine assembled in 2005

GOES LIKE STINK. HANDLES WELL AND IS AN ABSOLUTE JOY TO RIDE.

I. E NOT DONE HUGE AMOUNTS OF MILES ON IT.

# JUST HAD NEW CLUTCH . NEW STARTER MOTOR. SOLENOID. STARTER CLUTCH AND JACKSHAFT#  (small fortune)

NEW PLUGS AND LEADS ALL DONE BY A  SPECIALIST

 

OIL AND FILTER CHANGED

MILEAGE IS UNKNOWN AS IT HAD A STANDARD NON H-D SPEEDO AND I REPLACED IT WITH GENUINE (2ND HAND ) ONE FROM AN AUTO  BOOTER

FRONT FORKS AND TRIPLE TREE WAS NEW WHEN I BOUGHT IT.   FRONT DOUBLE DISCS FROM A JAP BIKE . NO IDEA WHAT BIKE IT COME FROM.

THE REST OF BIKE ALL ORIGINAL AS FAR AS I KNOW.  

I  REPLACED THE BLACK OIL TANK WITH CHROME TANK. /p>

ADDED COIL COVER

REPLACED BAR GRIPS WITH LOGO THAT MATCHES DERBY COVER

REPLACED INSTRUMENT CONSOLE FOR CHROME ONE

POWDER COATED TANK PANEL

 

THE FUEL TANKS ARE FAT BOB FLATSIDED

HAS A LE PERA SOLO SEAT WITH PILLION PAD FITTED TO IT.  

UNFORTUNATELY I OVER FILLED TANK AND PETROL RAN DOWN THE SIDE OF TANK AND SPOILED THE PAINTWORK. NOT HUGE SPOILING BUT NOTICABLE.

BOTH TYRES PLENTY OF TREAD

MY PLAN WAS TO WORK THRU MY BLING LIST TO ADD INDICATORS. CHANGE BAR LEVERS. nbsp; RESPRAY . CHANGE DULL NUTS AND BOLTS FOR SHINY ONES. BIT MORE BLING  THEN MORE BLING . SERIOUS POLISH BUT DECIDED TO PUT MONEY ON SOMETHING THAT DOESN. WANT ANYTHING DOING TO IT.

V5 IN MY NAME

GOT ORIGINAL DOCUMENT FROM S&S CERTIFIYING ASSEMBLY OF ENGINE DATED 11/02/05

ALSO GOT CERTIFICATE FROM S&S CYCLE. INC. OF ORIGIN FOR A VEHICLE. nbsp; IDENTIFYING THE ENGINE NUMBER  DATED 02 NOVEMBER 2005.

HAVE A PILE OF S&S INSTRUCTIONS AND INSTALLATIONS SHEETS ALL TO DO WITH S&S  ENGINE AND CARBS

 

NOW THE BAD BIT.  Please read

# Had the starter done due to the one fitted started to not catch and making horrible noise. It eventually seized so had it looked at a by local specialist.   Someone has been in there before possibly when the s s motor was fitted a few years ago.   The tech described it as a bitsa this and bitsa that.   

Anyway he replaced starter. starter solenoid. jackshaft . tarter clutch and while it was in bits the clutch was done with a better one. Relevant gaskets and primary oil done.   Its not perfect as it doesn. catch sometimes and sound awfull but it does start and run great. Rides superbly.

I started it after 2 weeks of not using it . fired up and ran and rode. I. e done about 1 mile on new clutch.

I no longer want to spend on it to fully sort out the starter issue.

i start it with short bursts rather than long turn overs to avoid the crashing mis catch #

MOVING ON FROM THE NEGATIVE.

OVERALL A NICE BIKE THAT LOOKS GOOD. RIDES GOOD AND HAS LOADS OF POTENTIAL TO SOMEONE WHO FANCYS AN OLDIE.    MAYBE A PROJECT. MAKE USE OF THE ENGINE IN ANOTHER. DO IT UP . WHATEVER

ITS TAXED TESTED AND INSURED AND MAY GET USED TO KEEP IT CHARGED UP.
