DELUXEHD Store 1985 Marked the First Full Production Year of the Famous 1340 Evolution Motor. This Power Plant Would Be the Launch of a New Era in Harley Davidson Powertrain Development. Originally Released in Mid-1984 This Motor Would Prove to Be a Worthy Replacement for the Popular Shovelhead. The Early Evolution Motors Such As This 1985 Still Sported the Heavy Flywheels and Shared Most of the Bottom and Parts with the Shovelhead. The Heavy Flywheels Allowed This Motor To Pull Harder and Feel Stronger Than Any Motor Harley Had Produced to Date. The Change in the Cylinder and Head Arrangement Allowed for a Much More Efficient Combustion Chamber. No Longer Were the Cylinders Bolted Directly to the Cases but Were Held on Now for Studs and Nuts That Also Secured the Heads to the Cylinders. But the Real Change Came in What Was Called the Squish D Combustion Chamber. This Combustion Chamber Design Coupled with the Compression Bump Allowed This to Be a Very Effective and Efficient Motorcycle. In My Experience Riding These Bikes It Was Easy to Get 50 to 60 Miles to the Gallon. These Early Examples Still Have Sand Cast Cases For Strength and Are in My Opinion the Best Evolution Motors Produced. This Is Also the Very Last Year That Harley Produced Any Motorcycles with a Four Speed Transmission. After a Careful Inspection of the Bike It Appears That the Motor and Transmission Have Never Been Apart. The Base Gaskets Are Not Weeping Oil and the Transmission Does Not Appear to Leak. At One Point in Time the Inner and Outer Primary Were Removed to Facilitate Installation of the Forward Controls. However It Still Has the Original Wet Clutch That Appeared in Mid-1984. Production Numbers on This 1985 FXSB Totaled a Mere 2359. All Numbers Match As You Can See in The Pictures. Runs and Rides Great. All Turn Signals and Indicator Lamps Work Correctly. Front Tire New Rear Tire Appears Good This Bike Is Ready to Ride This 1985 FXSB is in near Stock Condition. There Are A Few Exceptions However and You’ll See Them Listed below. It Has Been Lowered Front and Rear Forward Controls Have Been Added The Mirrors Have Been Changed Too Late Model The Handlebar Risers Have Been Changed The Exhaust System Has Been Changed It Has an S&S E-Series Carburetor It Also Has a Lead on License Plate Bracket The Seat Is Aftermarket Don’t Miss Out On This Collectible FXSB It Is Very Rare to See These Bikes Now and Even more So This Close to Stock.
