Description

Greetings eBayers! This is a No Reserve auction for a 1940EL knucklehead in perfect running order. I purchased this bike about twelve years ago from the private collection of a Wisconsin Dealership. It retains stock configuration including six volt electrics. As many of these as I have owned. I still cannot distinguish a bull neck from a chicken neck so the last time distinguished "How To" author of recent second addition dropped by my shop to rummage parts. I asked him if he would assist me in sorting out frames on my various machines. He advised that based upon steep rake (<1/8" clearance between front fender and front crash bar). position of front fork grease fittings. gas tank petcock position and who knows what else. he concluded that I had a '40 motor in a '39 chassis (not '39 shift pattern). He glanced no more than a minute and I am not holding him to it. I only guarantee an original factory uncut frame without modifications and minimal lower tube flattening limited to the front portion only. It has an original tail light. original earlier gas tanks. frame. motor. correct one year only 1940 cam cover. etc. . repop fenders. I ride it least among ponies in my stable and whether it sits six days. six months. or a year. with a charged battery she always starts in one kick primed. Those who ride them know that knuckleheads are very reliable. nbsp;like a time warp. In this context I would describe this bike as a knucklehead's knucklehead. To illustrate. over the past twelve years I have changed oil regularly. checked pushrod clearance. purchased a few batteries and slathered grease fittings liberally and frequently. nbsp;but I have never touched the points. never adjusted the carb. never touched fuel petcocks and never changed or cleaned spark plugs. You may cringe at this but I say why jigger a one kick machine?I have a clear Florida title. The Florida "Horseless Carriage" license plate designates a parade vehicle offered only to pre-war vehicles. I was told upon purchase that the tag attaches to the title. not the owner; therefore. it transfers automatically to the next owner = no annual sticker fees! Whether or not your state honors this is another story but in either case. nbsp;the tag comes with the bike. This is a rider. not a show bike. I didn't even wash it for the photos. She leaves a drip and a drop over time. but never a puddle. The six volt headlight shines as bright as a halogen. Try as I may. I can't come close to matching it on my other 6V bikes. I'm hesitant to list a bike on eBay because AMCA judging purists. know-it-alls and wanna-bees with no intention of bidding abuse the Ask the Seller a Question feature by instead offering unsolicited answers to questions not asked to impress with their knowledge or degrade the bike by pointing out everything that is incorrect. I respectfully remind you that there are many facets to the antique motorcycle community in addition to points judging. not least of whom are those who actually ride the damn things. The difference between ignorance and apathy is I don't know and I don't care! Intelligent questions from serious potential bidders are welcomed and additional photos are available upon request. Hands-on inspection 30 minutes from Tampa can be arranged by appointment. I will answer all questions. but I get bogged down at the 'puter and would much prefer a phone call 352. 267. 3917. Ebay listing format has become quite cumbersome with all types of forms on return policies. payment and shipping options. etc. This body of text supersedes any subsequent forms boxes. I prefer cash. money orders or cleared personal checks; not PayPal. I will assist with shipping at buyer's cost. Overseas bidders welcomed. I have sold overseas before and I will deliver to the Port of Miami for $400. Thanks for visiting and good luck!
