Up for Auction is one 1983 FXWG Harley-Davidson. I am told that there was only one other owner before me. It was bought new at a dealership in NC and then traded in on another new H-D after all of these years. Most of the information I have was passed down from the dealership where it was traded in. You can see that it is a very original bike with a few Harley accessories. This is an original bike meaning that the major components (frame engine and transmission etc) have always been together. Parts have been replaced as needed of course but it has always been a whole motorcycle. This was not made from a pile of parts or built from scratch. It is a low mileage bike that has not been hacked up or messed up. And as one would expect it does have some faded paint and normal wear from years of faithful service. Everything works as it should. In general this is just a really nice older motorcycle that has somehow managed to survive all of the fads intact. A rare thing indeedThe engine is a 1340 Shovelhead that has good compression does not smoke cough or spit. There is no lifter noise no rattles tapping or ticking. It does not leak oil. It does not weep oil. It does not "mark it's spot". It pulls hard and has plenty of power. It has always started with a few kicks or immediately at the press of a button. The choke works fine and the oil cooler keeps the temperatures under control. The mufflers are slip on H-D and they have a little bass on the low end but not are not an obnoxious farting popping mess. The engine is surprisingly smooth. The transmission shifts smoothly goes in and out of neutral easily and doesn't "clunk" when shifting. The clutch engages smoothly and doesn't chatter stick or grab while sitting still. It does not leak. The primary is adjusted correctly and doesn't whine sing or leak. Of course it is kick or electric start that works well. The electric is not a powerhouse with the smaller H-D battery but it has never let me down. The front and rear suspension are smooth and steady. Nothing bottoms out leaks jars your teeth or makes you wish for a bagger. The seat is amazingly comfortable after all of these years. There are no mystery noises rattles vibrations or anything to learn to live with. It is a well mannered bike that is comfortable and reliable that shows no signs of letting up or letting go anytime soon. The oil has been changed recently and the plugs look good. The brakes work well but the front left will need some attention. I noticed some oil on the rotor as I was taking pictures. I also noticed dry rot on the rear tire when going over it. So it does need to be replaced. It can be seen at...Joe Smith Early V88405 Cleveland StHenrico VA23228The bike has to be picked up. I can't make arrangements for shipping but I will assist in loading or other reasonable requests related to shipping. It can be stored for two weeks after the auction. I will need a 1000 non refundable PayPal deposit at the end of the Auction.
