VERY RARE 1972 HARLEY SPORTSTER XL-A MODEL PROJECT BIKE. 1000CC IRON HEAD

This is a 1972 Harley-Davidson Sportster XL-A model. The 4D prefix classifies it as an XL-A which was the designation for military models. The H2 suffix shows the year being 1972. This is a 1000cc iron head model the first year for the that and is a right foot shift left foot brake model. This is not an XLH or XLCH model but an XL-A model!!! The bike was disassembled by the previous owner who was going to turn it into a chopper. That was in 1987 when it then went into a storage unit. At that time the mileage was said to be about 15312 miles but the original speedometer is missing and new one is included in the deal. There is no gas tank with this bike and the fenders have been chopped. The motor has been partially disassembled with the lower end and transmission still together. The steel motor parts show some rust but the crank and transmission do turn over smoothly tho I would recommend a complete rebuild with this unless you are just going to use it for parts. Here is what I know is included in the deal: frame with correct VIN number engine lower end and trans with matching number front and rear cylinder heads and cylinders with NO BROKEN FINS (but the cylinders will need to be bored with new pistons) rocker boxes and rocker arms intake manifold with S&S Super B carburetor generator and starter camshafts and cam cover primary cover front forks upper and lower triple trees with bearings front and rear wheels front and rear brakes and axles swing arm and rear shocks seat passenger pillion handlebar and cables jiffy stand oil tank primered and ready for paint oil lines wiring harness headlight and taillight shift lever brake pedal clutch and front brake levers twist grip and throttle cable chain and sprockets new battery with no acid ever added fender struts footpegs chain guard drag pipes misc brackets and nuts and bolts. The frame and swing arm were freshly painted in 1987 just before going into storage and the oil tank was primered at that time. I also have the original factory shop manual with this bike listing the XL-A model as an option. I have found very little information regarding XL-A models in the early seventies but clearly this one of only a few to be found.
