Offered here forauction is my low mileage 1998 Harley Davidson XL1200S Sportster Sport. The Sportster Sport was a low production high performance offering at 31000 total units produced. It also commanded a premium price as it sold for almost $9000 in 1998 with 9100 units produced that year. The Sportster Sport's performance enhancements over the standard and Custom included: * Two Spark Plugs Per Cylinder (4 spark plugs total) * High Tech Electronic Ignition System with Four-Pole Coils * Special (Hotter) Camshaft Profile Providing 15% greater Torque. * Higher Compression Ratio of 10:1 vs. 9:1 * Higher Horsepower of 69 @ 5500 vs. 66 @ 5200 * Triple Disc Brakes with Two up Front and One in Back (look closely as these are "floating" discs which were stock in 1998. They went to one-piece discs on later models to lower production costs. The original and first owner explained that the speedometer failed early-on as many did on this model and that it was eventually replaced with the factory upgraded and corrected version. He noted that one must add 1500 miles to the odometer reading which is currently at 2417 miles. Also the Sportster Sport was factory fitted with the much softer Dunlop Elite K591 SP. I changed this tire out not due to wear but due to age. The mechanic at my local Harley dealer estimated that based on the limited wear to the original that the bike had no more than 3500 miles on it as there were no wear bars showing. That is the best I can do on a mileage estimate. The title reflects this issue. The story: I purchased this motorcycle back in the fall of 2010. The bike had sat unused for the majority of its life in a garage in completely original condition. There are some scratches on the tank and the rear fender that can be seen in the photos. These scratches were acquired while it was stored as it wasn't covered. My plan was to have them touched up and buff-blended to preserve the original factory paint job and appearance but I've never gotten around to it. I have included with this sale the original seat plate holder and mufflers. A change-out supply of Amsoil motor oil a new set of plug wires which I ended up not needing and some ancillary other parts. I also have the original owners manual and a cover for the bike. I purchased a new AGM battery for it in June 2015. As you can see in my many photos it is in beautiful original condition.
