Up for auction is a RARE restored 1941 Harley Davidson WLD DELUXE SOLO GROUP Flat Head motorcycle.
I am not an expert so I purchased this from an Antique Motorcycle Club of America Field Judge. I believe it is a correct and complete restoration.
The restoration information below is from the AMCA Field Judge when I purchased the bike in Sept of 2009.
"The RARE DELUXE SOLO GROUP consists of: Front Safety Guard, teering Damper, ide Control, iffy Stand, rip Odometer, ender Light, hrome Air Cleaner, eluxe Saddle Bags, eluxe Buddy Seat, hrome Saddle Bag Plates, .00X16 Tires, ncluding the Chrome Group (Rims, andlebars, eadlamp, nstrument Panel, top Light Housing, elay Cover, xhaust Pipe Covers, icense Frame), op Fender Ornament (not installed but will go with the bike)."
"The WLD is the street performance version of the 45 cubic inch flat head. The 45 Cubic inch Flat Head was produced by Harley Davidson from 1930-1948. This is a WLD which means it has a bigger (RARE 2") intake manifold (different cylinders than the WL which are as rare as hen's teeth) and Linkert M41 carb. It also came stock with high compression heads and WLD cams. Some of the parts on the bike are made only a few years 1939-1941."
"The engine and transmission were rebuilt using New Old Stock Parts. Engine was new from the flywheels out (of course matching production numbers on the engine cases). Correct Original three slash high compression heads (predecessor to the number 6 heads), LD Cylinders (rare 2 inch intake manifold), LD cams, 41 Linkert carburator (painted silver) with correct early model carb support, estored 32E generator, ew Old Stock cloth wiring harness. Original Cycle Ray Headlamp with original lens, estored Original HD Speedometer, ith correct original 1939-1941 only "V" type instrument cover. Correct original rare and expensive sweated together (not welded), OS floorboards with NOS Mats, OS exhaust header pipes with exact replica muffler. Correct original Harley Davidson chrome 45 cubic inch front rim (not a rear interchangeable rim) and original rear stepped hub.Wheels have Buchanan stainless steel spokes (bead blasted to represent cad plate accepted by AMCA) Correct 1941 Flight Red Paint, orrect original 1939-1941 ONLY rear tail lamp with HD Glass lens,(with spring lens retainers) Correct replica 1941 black leather Saddle Bags by Heathers Leathers. Every nut and bolt finish is correct. The 1941 is a very collectable year due to the improvements HD made to their line. First Year of Oxide coated piston rings, edesigned Valve springs, entrifugal controlled oil feed pump, arger 7 inch diameter Air Cleaner, edesigned clutch with two fiber discs, wo steel discs, n spring disc, nd a larger hub that is splined to the mainshaft. Larger clutch pushrod bearing, onger straight clutch release lever, ulti stranded clutch cable, ew Synchros in transmission, evised inner and outer primary covers (due to the enlarged clutch hub, he early model outer primary cover was mad with a two piece welded design, hich this bake has). Frame redesigned for the new transmission and toolbox location, ransmission mounts to the frame using three studs, treamlined teardrop-shaped toolbox with speed-lined cover, oolbox now mounted on the right rear frame stay, ses a lock and key, Plain-type" hand lever, olished aluminum, Airplane-style"speedometer, 940 style tank badges but with a gasket underneath and chrome strips extending the front and rear of the tank, 6 inch wheels standard, ombination loose ball bearing hub and brake drum. Wider rear brake drum, edesigned optional rear safety guard, tarter spring 9/16 inchX2 5/8 diameter, ront brake drum and hub are one unit. Rear chain guard clamped to frame. Gearshift cyanide-hardened, attery grounded to frame, ike will be sold with Clear NC title. The bike was restored by an Antique Motorcycle Club of America field judge and should bring a junior, enior and winner circle with out any problems. The bike runs great, hifts perfectly and looks FANTASTIC."
I do not know the odometer reading prior to the restoration but the odometer was professionally rebuilt and set to zero. The bike now shows only 155 miles. I take it on a short ride each year.
This is an exceptional value on a high end complete restoration of a desirable Harley Davidson motorcycle.
