YOU'VE GOT TO SEE THIS BIKE TO BELIEVE IT! I'M SELLINGIT FOR MY BEST FRIEND AND LONG TIME SADDLE PAL. THE DESCRIPTION THAT FOLLOWS ARE HIS WORDS; I WHOLEHEARTEDLY VERIFY THE INFO!
THIS BIKE IS THE CREAM DE LA CREAM OF SHOVELHEADS. IT'S A 1983 FLH. IT'S AMERICAN EXCESS. IT HAS A REAR BELT DRIVE AND A SIDE CAR FRONT END (there is a steering damper). THE BIKE (see pictures) IS EXACTLYHOW IT WAS WHEN I BOUGHT IT FROM IT'S ORIGINAL OWNER IN 1992. IT HAD ONLY 14,000 MILES ON IT. IT WAS A BABY! IT NOW HAS 83,883 MILES ON IT - BUT WAIT-
I HAD THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION REBUILT WHEN THE BIKE HAD 52,000 MILES ON IT. IT WAS REBUILT BY SUPERIOR CYCLE IN SUPERIOR WISCONSIN.
(Note from Deadwood 59)- My buddy John is quite the character. The bike was too nice and too new for him to just ride it the way he bought. His description follows:
I TOOK ALL THE ORIGINAL GEAR OFF THE BIKE WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IT; SADDLE BAGS, ANK, ENDERS, EAT, TC. AND WRAPPED EVERYTHING UP AND STORED IT IN MY CLIMATE CONTROLLED (wood burning stove) BASEMENT.I JUST COULDN'T RUNTHE BIKETHAT WAY AND RUIN IT. I WANTED A RAT BIKE AND I HAD A LOT OF OLD BEAT UP STUFF; TANKS, ENDERS, ND SUCH (there's a photo of itthe way it looked after I transformed it).
WELL, TRANSFORMED IT AGAIN. I JUST PUT EVERYTHING BACK ON THE BIKE.THE PAINT AND DECALS ARE ALL ORIGINAL FROM THE FACTORY. THE SEAT LOOKS LIKE IT JUST CAME OUT OF THE BOX. IT'S ALL AT LEAST 96% PERFECT. THIS BIKE COULD BE IN A MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM NOW.
I UPDATED A FEW THINGS; THE ELECTRONIC IGNITION IS A DYNA 2000 DIGITAL SYSTEM THAT HAS BEEN PROPERLY TIMED WITH A TIMING LIGHT BY ME. THE COIL IS ALSO MADE BY DYNA. THE CARBURATOR IS AN S&S, HE JETTING WAS DONE BY ME AND IT'S SPOT ON. THE BIKE STARTS IMMEDIATELY!
IRAN MOBILE 1 OIL SYNTHETIC OIL EXCLUSIVELY SINCE THE DAY I FIRST CHANGED THE OIL; IN THE ENGINE AND TRANS. THE BIKE BARELY LEAKS (the only time an old Harley doesn't leak is if there's no oil in it at all). THERE ARE NO STRIPPED INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL THREADS, O ROUNDED NUTS OR BOLT HEADS.
ALL THE YEARS I RODE THE BIKE IT HAD A KICK STARTER (I added it myself) BUT WHEN I JUST CHANGED THE EXHAUST PIPES BACK I HAD TO CHANGE THE TRANNY COVER SO THE PIPES WOULD CLEAR. IF YOU WANT TO INSTALL THE KICKER (which I'm including in the extra parts but it's not it the pic) YOU'D HAVE TO CHANGE THE EXHAUST PIPES.
I'M INCLUDING SOME EXTRA PARTS; THE ORIGINAL AIR CLEANER AND BENDIX CARB, ATTERY COVER, ELT GUARD, AND THE FAIRING (I never ran the fairing but I think I have the right mounting brackets included). I'M ALSO INCLUDING PARTS FOR RUNNING A SIDE CAR (no I don't have a side car and never did have one). THE BRACKETS CAME WITH THE BIKE WHEN I BOUGHT IT. I ALSO JUST INSTALLED A BRAND NEW H-12 BATTERY.
I RODE THIS BIKE ALL OVER THE PLACE AND DID MOST OF THE WRENCHING MYSELF. SHE'S BEEN A VERY RELIABLE COMPANION. I ALWAYS LIKED THE WAY SHOVELHEADS LOOKED PLUS YOU COULD GO SOMEPLACE ON THEM; AND I DEFINITELY GOT AROUND ON THIS ONE! I'M 75 YEARS OLD NOW AND I THINK IT'S TIME TO SAY GOOD BYE TO MY BABY.
