My Dad competed in “Class C” events with/for Harley Davidson. Dad – Wayne Lyle Cody of Council Bluffs, A – competed in many of the local & regional hill-climbs and some flat-track events in the late 1940's and early 1950's. He won a couple of State of Iowa Hill-Climb Championships and also competed in the 1949 AMA National Climb in Dubuque, A, here he placed 7th.
Dad passed away in March of 2014; he was 90 years old. Dad was kind of a hoarder/pack-rat (an understatement really), ut I knew that he STILL HAD his bikes. His old bikes are: a 1946 "WR", 1940 74 cu.in. "knuckle", nd a 1929 45 cu.in. "side-valve". I also found a lot of Dad's old riding memorabilia… including his Harley Davidson racing jersey, is helmet, eathers, LASS-LENS goggles, iding "kidney" belt, tc. along with a number of his trophies.THIS AUCTION IS FOR THE 1946 HARLEY DAVIDSON “WR”
(WATCH FOR SIMILAR AUCTIONS FOR THE OTHER TWO BIKES, EMORABILIA, ND MISCELLANEOUS PARTS, o be posted over the next few days!)
While the bikes have not seen the light of day for 50+ years, adly, hey can’t say the same about the "(rain/snow) water"! Dad's garage hasn't had a good roof on it for a number of years, o the "weather" has taken a toll on the bikes. Even though they were "inside", ou could see almost as much daylight through the garage roof, s there was roof. The bikes are far from their conditions when last parked. In fact, he predominant “color” is RUST… but here are photo links to the “WR”:1946 Harley Davidson S/N: 46WR6015

I'm FAR from being knowledgeable about this bike/these bikes!!!! Below, am sharing with you what OTHERS have told me. They could be wrong… but more than likely, hey're right (or conflicting). I am trying to present this bike (and all of the bikes/stuff) as accurately and as honestly as I can… but "what you see is what you get".
I have received a mix of information regarding the bikes and their “accuracy”, ere is what has been said about THIS BIKE, he 1946 Harley Davidson “WR” S/N: 46WR6015:
1) The bike is NOT a "WR motorcycle"!! 2) While the MOTOR and carb ARE WR… that's about it. (I was also just told that the TRANSMISSION is also NOT a "WR" transmission.) 3) The seat, anks, nd fenders are also NOT WR 4) Apparently the previous owner (not Dad) took a WR motor/drive train and put it INTO a "standard" 45 cu.in. frame/bike, s WR frames are “moly”. 5) The forks on the bike now, lso are NOT WR forks, ut off of an older 45 cu.in. model (That is correct, he forks currently on the WR are NOT WR forks! When Dad bought the bike, he WR forks were bent. He told me that he put a spare set of forks
Here is an updated PhotoBucket link with the additional pictures of the items noted above: http://s290.photobucket.com/user/ydoc69/library/Dads%20Motorcycles/1946%20Harley%20Davidson%20WR%20%20%2046WR6015
After receiving information above, hat this bike is NOT a “real” WR, received the following CONTRASTING information from a person that is very knowledgeable about WR’s. So perhaps, he “irregularities” ARE actually WR-accurate!"I wanted to let you that the 1946 WR used a standard WL frame and fork, o this would be correct, ut is no special WR part; same thing with the gas tanks. These standard size gas tanks were used/sold with WRs, ut there were optional smaller dirt track tanks and wider Daytona long distance racing tanks that were used with a special oil tank under the seat that was made out of casted aluminum."
Again, 'm FAR from being knowledgeable about this bike/these bikes!!!! I am sharing with you what OTHERS have told me. They could be wrong… but more than likely, hey're right (or conflicting). I am trying to present this bike (and all of the bikes/stuff) as accurately and as honestly as I can… but "what you see is what you get".
