1960 Harley Davidson Topper

1960 was the first year for theHarley Davidson Topper. The production only ran for 5 years. In that time there were around 5000 scooters produced which makes finding one in decent condition tough these days. This one was restored around ten years ago and ridden very little since. I used it last summer as a "pit bike" at a few motorcycle shows and then put it into storage in July of 2014. Yesterday I got it out to take some pics and get it up and on its feet. It is currently running but not perfect. It will idle well and ride but doesn't seem to have the power that it did last year. I'm assuming that it's a carburetion issue from sitting for over a year. A compression test yielded 100 psi.
Many Harley collectors have overlooked the Topper as a "real" Harley, utting them in the Aermacchi category, ssuming that they are Italian built with a Harley badge. The Toppers were actually designed and built inMilwaukee with all SAE parts making this an American made scooter. They have a fewinterchangeable parts with theHarley Hummer.
