PROJECT BIKE: 1971 Harley Davidson Aermacchi Baja 100 "MSR Competition" Model. 2 stroke, speed, .5 gallon tank, eighs 212 pounds, eriani front forks. This bike is bored out to a 125cc, nd has rare factory folding foot pegs and a rare NOS engine guard! Dave Ekins raced one of these bikes, nd so should you!
NOTE!!!!! this bike NEVER came with a title and it DOES NOT have a title. I can give you a bill of sale only. (i had to put in "clear" in the listing otherwise i couldn't list this bike!!!)
NO RESERVE!! Great complete bike that looks good. Needs some attention, ut it is all there. Nice and clean. All fasteners are greased and come off. Installed all allen key fasteners in the motor. Still retains the original German Metzler tires. Proper 21 inch rim up front, 8 in the back.
This is one of roughly 1200 1971 Harley Baja 100s. Matching engine and frame number "8B10256H1." Has matching engine case numbers. This bike has the original "Competition only" sticker on the head tube. See picture. 1970 and 1971 are the sought after Bajas; after '71 they became the street version SR 100s with lights. Don't be fooled, his is the Baja you want! This model has no lights and no kick stand.
Comes with: original 1971 magazine ad, riginal NOS 1971 Baja owners manual, reproduction full service manual, xtra fasteners, front fender brackets and hardware, he 2 front fender blank out allen bolts (if you don't want the high fender mounts on the bike) and an extra 1971 engine case (why? because a small stud holding the kick start spring was welded...it is holding fine, ut you have this extra case...just in case!)
This bike is listed as a project because it is not currently running. It has ALL of its original parts and fasteners, XCEPT: the low front fender, he chain, he air cleaner element and the original levers and perches. It has REPRODUCTION: H-D grips, -D foot peg rubber and the seat cover (from Moto Italia in CA, ost $80). It has ORIGINAL carb, as tank, as cap, teering dampner, eriani forks, heels, andlebars, ngine guard, olding foot pegs, ables and cable housings, ir cleaner (restored and painted flat black), rame (painted), ngine, ear fender, ardware, oil with red Italian sticker, park plug (Harley No. 7), ear brake lever, hift lever, ick start lever, rail gear, uel petcock and filter and so on...
Here is what I have done to the bike: I bought it as a complete bike, on-running. I had the frame and head media blasted. The frame was painted at a local body shop. The frame is NOT powder coated. I painted the original exhaust and the top triple tree clamp with black "wrinkle" paint. I cleaned and pained the cylinder head jug with heat proof paint. The rear and front fenders are still in primer. The rear fender is original (never drilled for a tail light), he front "high" fender set up is off a '72 Baja. I primed and painted the seat pan, ut in new foam, nd installed the new cover. I pulled the motor, leaned it, olished it. I put in NOS points and condenser. I installed a NOS 14-tooth drive gear. Cleaned and greased the swing arm bolt. Bought and installed NOS bolt to hold folding foot pegs. I sonically cleaned the Dell Orto MB-24A carb and installed new gaskets and new beveled screws. I installed brand new clutch plates and had the clutch basket studs welded to the housing for extra strength. I used 4 gallons of "Metal Rescue" to clean the gas tank. I used red Honda fork oil and properly filled the forks. I installed NOS fork dust covers. Installed new fuel line (Motion Pro), nd a kill switch from a Honda. I also added a ground wire and the bike is properly grounded. Installed a new spark plug (comes with original Harley No. 7 plug).
WHY is the bike a project? This bike has a free motor and shifts through the gears with new clutch plates and has GREAT spark. I had it running in 2015, ut a piston ring broke. I immediately shut it down, ulled the motor and removed the broken ring. So...the bike needs a new piston (readily available on eBay, eep in mind this piston is 55 mm across as this bike is a 125cc, ot a 100cc), eeds new rings and needs crank seals. I say it needs crank seals because when i put it in gear, t immediately stalled. You will also want to open the engine up to make absolutely sure no tiny pieces of the broken ring are in there...I don't think they are, ut know to check for that! NOTE: the current piston in the bike has ONE of the two rings in it, nd there is no gasket between the jug and the engine cases. Do not run the bike!!
As you can see in the pictures, did a "loving" restoration. Meaning, he gas tank has its original paint and has several DENTS. I spliced in repro stickers on top the the faded original stickers on the tank. The chrome on the rims is poor. The hubs have not been cleaned or polished. The brakes are not hooked up, or is the clutch. All the parts there, ust loosely put together as you will likely be taking them off! The lever are non original and will take a little modification to get the cable to seat. All the fasteners should be wrench checked before riding, f course!_____________________________Call me, ave, f you have ANY questions. 608-217-3562.
