1971 Boat tail Super Glide--Original Paint
A fine example of an original boattail Super Glide AKA "Night Train"
This bike came from the estate of the original owner.
Paint: The boat tail and tanks are original. There are nicks and chips consistent with a 45-year-old bike, nd the right gas tank has a slight depression that isn't easy to detect. The front fender was swapped for one with better paint. The rear inner fender had a crack that was TIG welded. The inner fender was then repainted with period-correct matching paint.
Engine: The engine had been rebuilt by the original owner some years ago and never re-installed.The amazing Morry Fox of Boneyard Motorcycle in Olympia, ashingtonwent through the entire engine--top and bottom end--after I bought it.The freshly rebuiltengine has approximately 20 break-in miles.
Tires: The tires are new Avons front and rear.
Seat: The seat is in excellent condition, ith no damage of any kind. The foam isnot hardened.
Chrome: Overall the bike has good vintage chrome with no rust or pitting. The right rear fender strut has a rub on it.The muffler was re-chromed by the original owner, nd the plater was overzealouswhen polishingthe seam (not visible when mounted). The exhaust header was re-chromed a few weeks ago, nd theplater did a very good job of matching the original chrome and not over-polishing. I have not started the bike since installing the header.
Modifications: The original fork springs were replacedwith Progressive brandfork springs, esulting in a stiffer, etter handling front end. The rear brake master cylinder is aftermarket, unning DOT 5 (The original was not re-buildable nor were the other four I bought).
Shift Pattern: This bike is set up with a standard Harley shift pattern--one down, hree up.This was accomplished by replacing the small triangular bracket or lever on the outside of the ratchet mechanism withthecorrespondingpart from an FLH.All other linkage parts are stock, nd there would be no major disassembly required to switch the shift pattern back to original.I had intended to ride this bike, nd I'm too old to learn new tricks, hus the accommodation.
This bikehas beenassembled with love and great care.Everything works as it should, ndit is ready to ride. There are probably a few bolts that aren't correct, ut overall the bike is fine example of an original 71 Super Glide.
The red-white-and-bluebike is, f course, he more iconic paint job, ut I believe that the black paint best suits the Boat tail styling. As my friend Tom said, The blackmakes her butt look smaller."This bike did win "Best Classic Harley" at the Tenino Swap and Show, n which one of the other entries in the same class was a red-white-and-blue '71 Super Glide.
I have a clear title in my name. The bike is registered as an antique in Washington Sate, hich means if you are a Washingtonian, ou will never have to pay licensing or registration fees.If the buyer is from Washington State, will include the original 1971 plate.
Shipping: Shipping and pick up is the responsibility of the buyer, ut of course I will facilitate the shipping and help the buyerany way I can.You are also welcome to pick the bike up in person.
I do have a shipper I use and like: Tim at Www.MOTOSHIPPERS.com 505-917-3349
