Description
This being said, here's no proof that all 42WLA motors were actually made in succession. So when Motor 42WLA26890 has Crankcase Numbers42-28352 ; this does not necessarily mean that Engine 42WLA26891 will have Crankcase Numbers 42-28353.......45 ci Flathead Engines were also used in Canadian WLCs and Servicars and motors for other models were made during the same timeframe...... Although of course, ou shouldn't find a 1944 Crankcase Number on a Type II WLA........So to accurately date a 42WLA, ou need to look at the 42WLAXXXXX engine number and start from there. Only the Types VI and VII had the later style data plate which lists the engine serial number. If you want an attention getter, his is it! Lots of lookers and askers. The old Vets love her!
1942 WLA, IBERATOR, ype VII, arley Davidson, uilt sometime between Sept 1944-Aug 1945.
Runs Great! Rides Great! Clear title. She had been civilized after the war. Serial numbers checked out, 2 WLA. I have owned this girl for 9 years. This old girl could be a museum peace. It’s ridden and is capable of long distance rides. I ride it to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally every year. One year, 00 miles round trip. Since I do ride it a lot, wanted reliability and safety. I have installed a belt primary, ew clutch, ew kick start gears, ew front brakes, volt lithium battery, ew 4 speed transmission (Yes a 4 speed/ up grade from Poland) and incorporated LED tail lights to make her easier to see at night. I have resealed the scavenge oil pump, ead gaskets and clutch rod shaft. I have repaired a lot of the oil leaks stopped or minimized. These old girls are not leak free. I run Amsoil in both transmission and engine.MATCHING ENGINE CASE NUMBERS 45-13070NOTE ON ENGINE NUMBERS...WLAsdid not receive a frame tag or frame number and were identified by the engine number, mbossed on the left side of the crankcase in the following fashion '42WLAXXXXX'. This was the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).Furthermore all Harley-Davidson engine crankcases were numbered during their production on the lower front side of both halves by the year of manufacture followed by the sequence in which the crankcases were mated together (ie 42-12345 = the 12345th engine assembled in 1942).This being said, here's no proof that all 42WLA motors were actually made in succession.
