Description

This is a two-owner bike. I purchased it from the original owner June 2014. The bike had been in storage for about 30 years and had been inside (and sometimes outside) with stuff stored on and around it (fortunately Northern California weather is mostly kind to motorcycles). The original owner purchased the bike from HD Grants Pass Oregon in March 1975 (verified through Harley Davidson Customer Service). When I bought it the bike had 10,066 miles; it is currently at 10,672 miles. I believe (and have no reason to doubt) the miles on the bike to be original.

This is a numbers matching motor, rame (C5) and title (in my name). The last 3 pictures show the numbers on the frame and right case. The belly numbers match as well (175 041 062 bottom outside edge of left case and 175 041 062 on inside of left case above camshaft visible through front tappet block opening).

The bike has all the original handle bar wires and controls and even the wire clips that go into the bars to hold the wires in place. There is one connector under the speedo-tach unit that is not original.

Work I paid for:

Top end rebuild (RE Engineering, an Jose CA): Manley valves, ndrews valve seals, 0.10 pistons and rings, ronze guides, achine seats and lap valves, achine upper and lower collars for seals, one cylinders.

Work I performed:

Assembled top end using Cometic gaskets. Front and rear lifter block gaskets are from James.

New front and rear tires (and tubes): front – Dunlop D401F 90/90-19; rear Dunlop D402 MT90B16.

Front brake (repair/replace): front brake line (completely blocked), aster cylinder/front brake switch assembly unit (would not pump up), aster cylinder rebuild kit, ront brake piston seal kit, aster cylinder cap gasket, ront brake lever.

Rear brake (repair/replace): caliper assembly – the rear caliper was frozen and had a date code from 1976. I purchased a 1975-coded caliper (the finish is not correct), nd added the piston and seal kit. The bike had been converted to forward controls using a Hurst/Airheart unit (at the time this was a period modification for forward controls). With the rebuild I added a correct date-coded original rear brake master unit assembly as well as a rebuild of the unit itself and an OEM brake line.

Rebuilt the original Bendix carburetor, eplaced the manifold seals and the air filter. It spits a little through the carb when it is cold but goes away once the motor warms up.

Inspected the transmission and replaced the needed gaskets (it shifts well and it should…at 10K it is barley broken in!).

Replaced circuit breakers. The bike still has the original stator and voltage regulator. It is missing the boot over the solenoid. I believe I have a correct one and will include that. It is a bit faded as I recall though.

Replaced all the period aftermarket Hurst/Airheart forward control linkage and components with the correct OEM mid-control components (both the shifter side and the rear brake side) from my stash. The rubber on the controls are all Harley Davidson parts.

Replaced rubber hoses and used crimp clamps that I believe are correct.

Replaced motor and transmission fluids. Replaced fork oil and fork seals.

What is not functioning:

Turn signals do not blink. The lights come on so it is probably a bad flasher unit (haven't checked it out because I use hand signals).

The high beam light (haven't inspected it because I do not drive it at night).

The tripometer will not return to zero unless the knob is taken out of the housing and rotated by hand. I inspected it and the cable housing looked rusty. Even after cleaning and soaking it, t still does not function in the housing unit.

The security alarm on the rear license plate. There is no key to activate the alarm. I inspected the unit and saw the capacitors for the mercury switch had been cut.

What is not OEM/NOS:

Note: these are correct parts, ut they were not purchased from Harley Davidson. (And, don't think Harley Davidson sells any of these parts for Shovelheadbikes anymore).Front brake line, ntake manifold seals, endix rebuild kit, ir filter, ront/rear master cylinder rebuild kits, iston for rear brake caliber, ront/rear piston seals, ometic top end gaskets, alves, eals, istons and rings.

What is not correct for year model:

Battery side cover, orward foot pegs. (Neither of these were an accessory offered in 1975 for this model.) The rear brake caliper does not have the correct finish. If someone sees something else that is not correct, lease let me know and I will update my ad (even if I do not agree with theassessment).

In closing:

The exhaust system is rather funky but it is correct for this year (last year this exhaust system was offered), s is the muffler (has the correct part number stamped on it).

From the pictures anyone can see that the paint, inish and chrome are not exactly to modern standards. There is a very slight indentation on the top right center portion of the gas tank (not in pics due to 24-pic limit). Also (not in pics), here are two holes drilled in the rear fender adjacent to where the seat screw attaches to the rear fender. You do not see these when the seat is on. The prior owner had attached an odd aftermarket seat along with a sissy bar that attached to the fender struts.

Just a thought… it can be only original ONCE, nd this is why I have tried to preserve it like it is, nice piece of Harley Davidson history. Maybe it is not the prettiest bike, ut it is pretty close to correct. If the the forward controls and battery cover are dropped, t would be difficult for some to tell that the bike is not in original condition. But that is for someone else to decide/ determine at this point.

I have receipts for the work done on the motor as well as any parts I purchased to try to get this back (as close as I could) to original condition. These receipts will also go with the purchase of the bike.

I have a photocopy of the original title (from the original owner). It too will go with the sale of the bike.

I have one original key as well as one replacement key (not original) that goes with the bike.

The stuff from my stash is just that, wap meet parts and take off parts (because someone wanted chrome) that I traded labor for since the '70s and kept and stored because I thought that maybe I could use them someday.

I have around 200 pictures I have taken of this bike. These include disassembly, ssembly, nti-theft codes, art-numbers and pictures in general that show the overall condition of the bike (bumps, hips and finish of paint and chrome). Ebay only allows 24 pics. If someone would like a picture of something specific, will do my best to accommodate your request. Please note: I will not email all the photos just because someone may ask! I will have my wife assist me in getting the winning bidder all the pictures I have taken (I am not exactly computer literate).

If I have left something out of this, t is not for want. There are no warranties either expressed or implied. I will do my best to make myself available to the winning bidder with shipping but all costs associated with and all arrangements for shipping and handling are on the winning bidder.
