1973 Harley Davidson Sportster
The Good
Runs good, any new parts: Exhaust, pholstery, il tank, rake switch, rive chain, uel valve. Bike was recently painted semi-flat black (not a great paint job, ut looks okay especially at a distance). I just rebuilt the front brake master cylinder with a new kit. Rear air shocks make for a rather smooth ride. Pink in hand, egistration non-op.
The Bad
The clutch drags a bit. I've put new plates in it and cleaned the basket splines well, et it still drags a little when the clutch is pulled in. It still goes into gear and shifts fine, ut it's annoying when stopped. The numbers don't match on the bike, he engine is from a 1975 Sportster. The riser "Dampners" will need replacing. I put some rubber components in their place, ut they have too much play. Makes steering a little sketchy! The oil light came on one time while the engine was running, ut hasn't done it since. The speedometer reads about twice the speed you are traveling, nd the tach doesn't work. I bought these gauges cheap, nd I got what I paid for. Mileage on this bike is unknown!
I bought this thing as a basket-case project. I thought I could put it together and make a few bucks, ut I was wrong. There were far too many missing parts. I pieced it together to make a complete and rideable bike, ut it still needs a lot of TLC. I would still consider it a project. I would recommend steering dampners, ires, nd whatever the clutch problem is. I've been into the clutch a couple of times, ery easy to work on. I'm guessing it needs a new clutch basket. And of course, eing an AMF era Harley, t leaks a little oil. There is seepage around the bottom of the jugs, nd a drip from the generator cover. I've got far too many bikes and other projects, just want to be done with this one. My loss is your gain, 've probably got around $4000 tied up in this thing, ut I'll take what I can get....I'm tired of messing with it. I can deliver within 50 miles of my home in Tehachapi, A for $1.00 a mile extra. This includes Bakersfield and Lancaster.
