Description

Sadly I'm selling off the last of my bikes. Sale due to health reasons. This is a 1940 Harley WLD, he flathead sport model. The engine has been completely rebuilt using the best nos parts. Has completely new top end (pistons, ings, ylinders, alves, uides, tc), ew bottom end bearings and bushings. Everything was checked and if anything was not like new it was replaced. Has the high compression heads and no cracked or broken fins. All new gaskets and seals, his engine is ready to run another 50 years.
The transmission was completely gone through and anything showing any wear was replaced. Has new Barnett clutch and chains.
The Linkert carb has been completely rebuilt and is ready to go.
Generator was gone through by local shop and is ready to go.
The frame was blasted and powder coated, ooks beautiful. Springer fork was blasted and all hardware and moving parts were replaced with nos stuff, ooks and functions like new. Springs are nos.
Wheels were blasted and powder coated, ubs were painted black lacquer then built back up with stainless spokes and a new pair of Coker tires were installed.
No short cuts were taken and no expense was spared on this build.
I had the original speedometer reconditioned and it looks and functions like new now (cost over $900).
This bike has everything to assemble it with the exception of a distributor and the left clutch pedal. It comes with everything shown, riginal tanks that have been blasted, ealed, kimmed and primed. Front and rear fenders, ice original seat, beautiful ORIGINAL set of leather saddle bags (better than I've seen in most museums), ights, orn, ines, inkage, unning boards, ick stand, ew complete wiring kit (the nice one with the correct cloth wires), ash pieces, ew 6v battery, etc, tc.
Everything shown in the pics comes with the bike.
The bike also has a clean Colorado title in my name ready to go. Vin # is 40WLDxxx, this is definitely not a pieced together WLD using a "G" servi car motor like most of them you see.
This bike just needs someone to finish it up. I've sold off more than a dozen of my bikes this year, ll with 100% satisfied customers and feedback. Bid with confidence. I had hoped to keep this and finish it up but it just isn't in the cards.
Finish the paint and assemble it all and you have a super collectable pre war Harley that you can actually ride (unlike the earlier ones). The 1940 WLD has decent brakes unlike the earlier bikes, nd the 750cc engine will get you around fine and is bullet proof.
These bikes bring big money finished. This bike will continue to appreciate and are getting hard to find in stock trim. Most have been cut up or are heavily modified. Paint to your liking, ssemble, ave fun and win shows!
Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer, I will help load everything at this end. All costs are the responsibility of the buyer. I will store it for up to 3 weeks while you line up the shipper, fter that I charge $10 a day storage fee.
Thanks for looking and let me know if you have any questions.
NO RESERVE, he bike goes to the highest bidder.

I've been asked by several people about the history of this bike. I bought it from a restaurant that was going out of business. The bike had hung in the restaurant as art for the last 30 years. That is all I know about the motorcycle other than it had a California title when I bought it.
I have been asked if everything is absolutely correct and original for a 1940 WLD. In one word, o. As with just about all old bikes things were replaced over the years with newer parts. Sometimes original Harley parts from a somewhat newer bike, ometimes aftermarket parts. The parts on this bike that I know are not original are the floor boards, hey are ww2 era metal units. The dash is stainless so it may be a reproduction. The tail light is a nice quality reproduction with an original glass lens. The exhaust is a reproduction. The wheels have stainless spokes. The primary cover is a powder coated reproduction. The grips and spirals are new reproductions. The headlight trim and lens are reproductions but I believe the bucket is original. The scoop type air intake is not original but I just like the looks of them and was going to put it on. The saddlebag mounts are new chrome units. I'm sure the oil and gas lines and fittings are replacements. Obviously the Coker tires aren't correct but are nice riding tires with a great vintage look. The wiring loom is a quality aftermarket item. I think that's about it.

Also, ll the cables and the switches are new items. The chrome coil is probably from the 1950's but is nos.
I have also had a couple people ask if the engine and trans are warrantied. They were put together with great care, ut as it says in the auction this is sold without warranty and as-is. It is up to the new owner to do a responsible break-in of the motor and not just hammer it. Thank you
