That Was Added To This Bike Was Done By A Certified Harley Mechanic That I  Trust  For Both Of My Bikes Heritage Springer History and other Details. The FLSTS Heritage Springer was introduced in 1997 as a replacement for the FLSTN Heritage Softail. Unlike the FXSTS Softail Springer. the FLSTS Heritage Springer came with a 16 inch front wheel rather than the 21 inch. It also came with saddlebags with fringe. whitewalls. fishtail mufflers. and passing lamps as an effort to give it the look of a '48 FL Panhead. The '97-'99 models years had an Evolution motor with a 5-speed transmission. These were mated with the traditional closed primary chaincase. The Evolution was 80 cubic inches(1340 cc) and used a dual fire ignition which fired both the cylinders at the same time regardless of the fact that one piston would not be at the optimal compression stroke. Only carbs were available and the gas tanks were split with a 4. 2 gallon capacity. Radical changes occurred with the coming of the 2000 model year. A new Softail frame was introduced with a different and improved geometry. The frame backbone was strengthened and a new swingarm with improved rear brakes (additional piston) were added. The Softail shocks were redesigned along with a sealed bearing system for the wheels to add to the improved ride. With the frame change. oil tanks. seats. shocks. wheels. rear brakes. rear rotors. sheetmetal. foot controls. wiring harnesses. ignition coils. engines. transmissions and primary drives were no longer interchangeable. The Evolution motor was replaced with the Twin Cam. The Twin Cam was increased to 88 cubic inches(1450 cc) and for Softails only. was counterbalanced to compensate for the rigid mounting system used. A major improvement was the attachment of the transmission to the back of the motor for increased strength. The wiring was improved and made way for the addition of fuel-injection as an option. Also. the ignition was upgraded to single fire with performance mods by the owner welcomed. An integrated fork lock in the steering head was added. and also a factory alarm. In 2001 a cosmetic change included the fringes being removed from the saddlebags and the seat. Interestingly enough. Harley did not upgrade the Heritage Springers front brake caliper in '99. Springers were the only Softails that continued using the same caliper on the front that was used since 1984. Unfortunately. Harley decided to discontinue The FLSTS Heritage Springer after the 2003
