I've had a lot of Harleys and I'm convinced the Softails are the best. The engines on all the late model Softail series are counter-balanced (96B) eliminating 99% of the vibration and delivering an extremely smooth ride.

The Heritage Softail Classic receives a number of other. more-subtle styling changes and new components that shift this popular model in a new. retro direction for 2009. The beefy FL front end features a front fender and chrome nacelle with clean new styling cues. while taller handlebars change the rider's profile. The fuel tank has new glass-filled. 3-D badges and is topped with a classic "Cat Eye" console and matching retro speedometer face.

Half-moon rider footboards and a large. oval foot brake pad also nod to the past. The passenger seat and backrest have been revised for more comfort. while the sissy bar has new trim that matches the new two-tone leather console panel. Both the revised saddle bag and seat trim have been restyled.

The hardest thing not to notice about the 2009 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic is the yards of chrome work that just seem to drip from every surface. but most particularly the engine. If there ever was a motorcycle that showed off its mill better than the 2009 Harley Davidson heritage Softail Classic. I have yet to see it in person. The 96B engine is plenty powerful. as well. though. producing 86 lb. /ft. of torque at just 3. 00 rpm. and yet delivering 54 miles per gallon highway fuel economy. and 35 miles per gallon in the city. though why anyone would subject this bike to city driving when it is so clearly meant for country roads is a mystery.

Electronic sequential Port Fuel Injection helps to provide the economy numbers. as does a six-speed transmission driving the rear wheel via a belt final drive.
