Description

Hi and welcome to the sale of my Ironhead Sportster! After researching some Harley websites I've worked out from the VIN number that this bike was originally made for the California market. and was manufactured in 1982. It was brought over here and registered in 1989. The speedo is obviously not original so the mileage is higher than shown. Having said that it was not used much.  I know the previous two owners so can trace the bike back 17 years!!! How many times can you say that about an old bike? I bought it off my mate last year late August. to ride to the Trip Out show. It originally had a big sprung saddle and cow horn bars with fishtails on the pipes. which I changed almost straight away to drag bars with risers. It has a custom back mudguard. and a Sparta taillight.  The last owner. and the previous owner. and myself have not ridden it throughout the winter. and it has seen light use. It had an electronic ignition system before but I changed it back to points as they are easier to fix by the road. and replaced the glass fuses with Harley mini trip fuses. which means you don't have to go rummaging in the dark if something blows. it just clicks back in. Very handy. The previous owner barely did 1000 miles per year. and owned it for 10 years. getting it serviced yearly with the MOT. Whilst I've had it it's been to Germany to the Kustom Culture Forever show in May. and did it without a hitch. (unlike me- my back went!) I've also done a few UK runs on it with no problems at all. It really goes for an old Ironhead sportster. and doesn't leak much at all ( if you know anything about Harleys you know this is good!) I did replace the seal behind the drive sprocket. and it's had a new bigger battery put on. Also the seat is a new old stock. original banana seat from way back in the day. I had it recovered by Geoff at GB upholstery a couple of weeks ago. It also has a new sprocket casing. You'll notice in the photos that the oil filler bung is missing in the primary case- this fell off on the way to the trip out! A new one will be on the bike soon. What else can I say? It is a great runner. but as you would expect has the usual Ironhead personality!! It burns some oil ( show me a Harley that doesn't) the brakes are actually good for one of these. it is just a great. fun bike to ride. I was planning. On chopping it next year. getting the parts together and transplanting it but I am building a new workshop and need to sell it to pay for it. This is not an excuse to offer me silly money! As it is it's a nice looking. straight Ironhead that is fine to ride as is. or to do your own thing to. Yes there are cheaper ones on EBay but there are also more expensive. and the thing about the cheap ones is you usually end up paying out to get them up to spec so they cost the same in the long run! Get yourself something you can get on. press the button and hit the road with a loud growl from the exhuast. and a smile on your face. This will be for sale elsewhere so I reserve the right to take down at any time. Please feel free to ask any questions or come to see it. I currently have it stored up for the winter in my unit in Bury St Edmunds. Cash on collection only. It is MOT'd and taxed so it will be possible to ride it away.
