Description

I regretfully have to sell my 1964 XLCH Sportster. I got the bike a couple of years ago and it had been rebuilt. rechromed. and repainted shortly before that. I took it for a few rides and the bike started loosing power. Turns out the rear cylinder was scored (maybe the rings didn't seat or timing was off?). I took the bike to my friend at Orange County Bobbers. who's been working on these bikes since the 70's. He rebuilt the top end (. 50 over I think). rebuilt the mag. and rebuilt the kicker gear (doesn't slip at all anymore!). He also took the OEM DC Linkert off in favor of a new Mikuni carb to get the bike running and dialed. This was over $2000 in work/ parts. Everything else on the bike looked great. I got the bike back recently. took it up the block. and the primary started leaking. I've only put about 1/2 mile on the rebuild. but I start it up just about every week. It is one of the best sounding bikes I've ever heard. very loud with a nice crisp growl. I just spent $340 on a new cast. finned primary cover since the old tin cover looked a little bent up on the bottom. The case around the primary looked good and is without cracks so I'm sure it's the cover that's not sealing. For the Buy It Now price. I will include the new cover along with a bunch of other OEM parts: DC Linkert CarbGood OEM horseshoe oil tank ($$$)New 13 1/2" covered shocks and toppers (not sure if they're OEM)Chrome OEM passenger peg bracket/ pegsOriginal rear fender (without the oil tank dent) that has been cut downI was also going to swap the rear wheel for a near mint OEM 18" wheel with OEM Goodyear tire in good shapeAs you can see the bike is in great shape. The front drum backing plate has some pitting on the chrome (happens on chromed aluminum). the rim has a little pitting as does the taillight. The paint is like new. and the seat looks NOS (Corbin Gentry). It has a BTE throttle. In the pix the headlight has a blown bulb but I replaced it with a new one. The front tire is a good Avon Speedmaster but it has some very fine checking. I believe the valve covers are either the originals with the recess cut in the top. or maybe '70 to '72 (correct me if I'm wrong). The carb could probably use some tuning. as the bike is broken in. The mag timing is dead on. The mag has a manual retard/ advance lever mounted behind the rear cylinder. This helps a a tremendous amount when starting the bike. The bike is currently registered and insured in my name. and I have a transferable registration- everything you need to title/ register it in any state. I hate to sell the bike and really could use the cash but I might entertain trades for a good running Shovelhead. possibly a Triumph (modern or pre'71). I need a paypal deposit of $500 within 3 days of the auction's end. I have the bike listed locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early. I'm located in Kingston NY but can deliver the bike within 100 miles for $1 a loaded mile. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer but I can drop it off at a shipper in NYC or North Jersey. I've shipped bikes through there before.
