1968 Harley-Davidson 883cc Sportster Engine no. 68XLH8202 The evocatively titled Sportster has been a permanent feature of the Harley-Davidson line-up since its arrival in 1957. Intended to compete with the sportier British twins. the XL Sportster was leaner and meaner than previous Harleys and boasted an all-new overhead-valve v-twin engine producing 40bhp. Progressively improved and updated. the XLH was introduced with its sparse good looks. electric start and 12 volt system. Always ridden hard and invariably modified. not many have survived the ensuing years intact. On offer is this XLH of 1968 vintage. The bike retains the 19?ˆ? Harley wheel up front as well as the often-switched-out for-a-smaller-size 18?ˆ? at the rear. The bike was languishing in the corner of a collection for several years. but with a cleaned carb. a new battery and starter solenoid. it fired right up. Having been further gone through by a marque expert. the bike is offered in good riding condition. The engine sounds good. gearbox shifts well. brakes and suspension work as they should. Cosmetically. the bike is in good overall condition. Tank has been repainted at some point and there?ˆ™s a small tear in the seat.
